Bino Preferances

Recommended Posts

Hey all,

I was hoping for some advice on bino power. I have the choice of getting a 16 power or 20 power bino. Will be used on a tripod. Given the power of a 20X, would I have problems with heat waves etc during early fall hunts and is a 16 power adequete. I currently use a 10x42 Swarovski. Thanks for your help. Jake

Well I use 15 power for glassing. I use the 15x58 minox, you can look too far with 15 power. In my group I'am not the best glasser, but I do have some pretty good spots on deer javelina, way out there! I was the first to go to this power in the group. We were useing 12x40 stiener and was doing real good with them. Looking thru brush with 15 power you can really pick out things, like parts of an animal. Remember Whats clear to your eyes may not be clear to some one else! Dont pick the brand name, pick the best glass for you!!!! That's important!!!!! Cheaper glass will find game, just know what to look for!!!!!

15's are plenty power. Using high magnification glasses aren't going to do you any good if they are a cheap pair with crappy resolution. Having a clear bright image will easily beat out any high power zoom. A pair of 10 power swaros will smoke a cheap pair of 15's any day when glassing. Having an object appear closer isn't going to do much good if the image is blurry and dark. I have the 15's swaros and have measured up bucks at distances that would take me all day to get too if I wanted to take a shot. Very few times I have wished I had a little more power. So few times I wouldn't ever buy a pair over 15 power. If you always have this problem than a spotting scope would be great to use in those few situations. Just my $.02.

I'm not sure what you are looking for in a 20x binocular. The only one worth using that I know of is the discontinued Zeiss stabilized. They run around $5K.

There are a bunch of 15-16X binoculars that are worth using in the $800-2000 range.

The 30X Doctors are fantastic but HUGE and very specialized.
