Red Sparky Report post Posted June 16, 2016 The thing I have heard is you put dry ice on the bottom to cool and on top to freeze. One suggestion I have if using regular cube ice you buy at the store buy it about 2 weeks before and put it in your freezer at home. My home freezer is 0 degrees but when you buy it at the store it is about 28-30 degrees. I also make block ice at the house. Last year I took one ice chest with about 16 2 qt frozen jugs, set it in the shade wrapped in a 0 degree sleeping bag and only opened it to put new blocks in the other ice chest. After 10 days I still had ice left over. Another suggestion is to pre-cool the ice chest and the stuff you are putting in the ice chest.
backcountry_brad Report post Posted June 16, 2016 Bradbaker and c. Cordova, how big were your coolers and how much dry ice did you use? I have a 75 qt and I think it was just one block

rcdinaz Report post Posted June 19, 2016 Yes wrap dry ice in news paper as stated or put it in a pc of styrofoam. It also makes sure it will not crack the plastic. anything near it will freeze solid so putting water bottles near the end with the dry ice is a good plan.
