My turn.... Had some one steal my memory card out of my camera and left the camera alone. They changed the date to all 0's and the time to o's. why do you think they would take the memory card and not the camera. The camera is not bolted or locked to the tree. Got any ideas??????

Thunderbolt and I figured out that our cameras were near each others I had a camera stolen yeaterday. the strange thing is they took mine but left thunderbolts! we talked about it and I think it was because mine didn't have a memory card so to see what was on the camera they had to take it and with thunderbolts they only took the memory card " thats all they needed " . Well another item stolen a blind and a camera all in short time. If I catch this sob there's going to be ,major issues !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry to hear about your memory card, cams and d bull blind...

For a guy who wants to "start' getting into some trail cam recon- after reading this stuff , boy it makes it difficult to spend the $$ on a quality set up, gas and time to check them out. It's too bad they can't develop some technology that renders the camera useless if you don't know the code...

Sorry to hear about the missing cards and cameras. This is getting ridiculous. Maybe they left your camera hoping you'd put another card in it and leave it there and they could come back and get the next card, or they took the card with intentions of viewing it and then returning it before you checked your camera?????? Either way it stinks!

That is part of the reason I only put out 2 of my 3 cameras this year after hearing about all the thefts and vandalism. I never came across a spot I felt was safe enough to put my third camera.

AZP&Y, that is a good idea on the locking code, but unfortunately they'd probably just get frustrated and smash or vandalize the camera.

The new Moultries have a PIN number option. You need to enter the number to activate it if you choose to use the feature.

Not sure how that helps, as the thief probably won't know that until he gets the camera home.

That sucks!! You guys have got to start locking up your cams.... can't trust people these days. I also like the double cam Idea.....set one way high so that no one can reach it or way low and cover it. Seems like a waste but might help. :(

Most cameras also have built in memory. Are you sure you didn't get any pics of the purps? I definately would lock it up. I use 12X12X8 electrical panels with locks on the covers and the chains. Doesn't mean it will not get stolen but it sure may slow them down or think otherwise. I also never put my cams near the beaten path.

Sorry to hear about that.

i have not looked into this, it's just a thought;

what about inserting the same type of tracking device that pet oweners are having the vet put in below the skin of thier pets? i have no idea of the cost, who to purchase tracking device from, or how you monitor it once your camers comes up missing.

just an idea.

That sucks, I hope that I hear sometime soon that one of us catch one of these guys soon. I've locked mine and they have been stolen, left them unlocked and they just get screwed with, I don't think there is a good answer. All mine are off the beaten path also?? Someday they'll get caught.

If someone has one of the new infared cames that they would be willing to loan I know someone who could insert it into a fake rock that looks real and would be removable. however he would need to make a mold and that would run about $500 dollars. I dont have that kind of money but maybe we could all chip in and get it done. then start placeing it in known theft locations and see if we good catch the sob's that are taking these cams. Pixcontroller sells trail cams that hook up to camera phones and send you a picture on your phone within a minute of the cam triggering but it needs reception so it cant be down in a canyon. They are also pricey. just some ideas.

I believe what you are referring to needs to be scanned by say the humane society. It does not actually emit a 'tracking signal' like Lo Jack... So when the pet is brought to the proper location, they can be 'scanned' and that information is on file and the owner contacted... If they have "lo jack" for dogs- that would still be cool... I know they have developed it for lap tops...just haven't heard about that for pets..

I see in the near future - someone booby trapping one of these cams , like the VC did to the US in vietnam... PS- THIS WASN"T my idea...

You are right but it might be a way to prove it is your cam if you can find it.

If you could buy the chip cheap enough and put it into the cam why not?

I think you could get a chip for under $5.00.

Cheap Insurance
