teej89 Report post Posted June 1, 2016 Hey guys! First timer over here, currently living in Ohio but moving to Phoenix in january. It's been a dream of the GF and mine to live out west, I wanted MT she wanted CA but would consider AZ, so once I educated myself on the hunting in AZ I was sold. Also is nice that there's CO, UT, and NM close by I've only been out hunting in the west twice, nebraska when I was 12 and got an antelope buck w/ my bow then last year in WY and killed a 6x5 bull with my bow and my dad got a 5x4 the day before, it was a trip to remember. Ever since then we've become addicted to the hunting style, so much that since he's retired now and I have 4 weeks of vacation we have a rifle antelope hunt in WY in October then 3 weeks later we're turning around and headed to CO for 3rd season rifle elk in November. Anywho coues deer has been a dream of my dad's to start hunting so when I told him AZ he went bananas saying I better get a 3 bedroom cuz he's going to be a resident Dec-Feb. We're both avid archery hunters so we're more than excited about the OTC tags in AZ. We realize the success rates are slim but it's not always about the kill, it's the arguments and beating each other up after our mistakes that make the hunt loL! Excited to join and hope I can learn a lot reading thru these thread and most likely will have some great blooper stories coming in as total newbies to western deer hunting. Thanks! T.J.

teej89 Report post Posted June 1, 2016 we're all pumped, we love being outdoors and OH there just isn't big enough or nice enough public land to actually hike/camp. Obviously I'm excited for the hunting and the fishing, since I moved to OH 3.5yrs ago I haven't touched my flyrod, no trout here The only thing I'm kind of worried about is my choc lab, he's a little over a year, I train him for hunt tests (torn ACL in feb delayed his competitions) but he's not a huge fan of the heat. Also I'm hoping to run into some other retriever trainers in the phoenix area. I would love to be able to get him to be an upland dog as well and try to get after some quail. KingJeff187 Report post Posted June 1, 2016 Welcome to The jungle..hahaha Hunting coues deer with a bow is the single most addictive thing you will ever do. i finally got my first with a bow last december. Hands down the greatest achievment with my bow thus far. I'm no Master hunter but if you find yourself in need of a place to start or just want to hit the archery range one day feel free to PM me. tjhunt2 Report post Posted June 1, 2016 Welcome to the site. There are some of the best hunters of all species right here on coueswhitetail.com. We have a few things in common like coming from Ohio, mostly an archery hunter, and own a lab. Sorry to hear your lab with the torn ACL. I was just having a conversation this week about dogs and torn ACLs. Some say they will heal by themselves and others say operate. Hope it all turns out for your lab. Again, welcome to the best hunting site in the west. ps....another common factor we have, TJ

6ANut Report post Posted June 1, 2016 Like many have stated welcome to the best hunting forum on the web especially when it involves AZ hunting. I picked up a bow about 5 years ago and have been an addict ever since, and I have not even released an arrow at an animal yet. I can give you some pointers on where to take your lab to get on some birds, send me a message. As my names says I love unit 6a so if you ever have any questions about that unit fire away. brian390 Report post Posted June 2, 2016 If you're already addicted to hunting, then once you get to Arizona you'll be addicted to it even more. With all of the public land, quality of animals, quantity of animals, and variety of units to hunt in this state, you can't beat it.

We had TPLO surgery done in march and he just had his final check up last week and he's 4 weeks ahead of schedule healing wise. It was a long 8 weeks not allowing him to do anything tho... but in 4 weeks he'll be 100% normal again and we're back to the water and the fields for some training. What part of OH did you come from? I'm here in columbus, how's AZ compared to columbus? From what I hear people are saying we'll never move back lol Thanks for all the warm welcomes guys! I think my time on this site is going to be a good one. I expected just the typical welcome to the site responses, when I moved to OH and joined a forum it was depressing b/c they were essentially saying good luck finding any decent hunting b/c it's either leased, already hunted, or you're on public which sucks. Hearing what you guys have to say about AZ, now I'm even more excited!
