Snapshot Report post Posted May 25, 2016 Forty plus years of living in southern Az, and I haven't seen a rattler over 4 1/2 feet long. But I don't go out of my way looking for them either!

This snake it most likely in not any bigger than 4 - 4 1/2 feet .... It is pushed forward to the camera and being tilted way up on the gambrel ( which is at least 2 feet ) IT IS AN OPTICAL ILLUSION AND TRICK PHOTOGRAPHY
Red Sparky Report post Posted May 25, 2016 Killed a 7 1/2 footer up by Cochiti Lake. Had 11 buttons on the rattles, about 5" long and where they broke off is 1/2" wide. When he opened his mouth you could have fit a softball in it. I agree some of it is optical illusion but I would not bet all is.
mattys281 Report post Posted May 25, 2016 I dont know exactly how big it was, but I saw one south of safford years ago on the way up to riggs lake that was definitely over 7 feet and probably closed to 4" diameter. Biggest wild snake I ever saw, slithering across the road in front off us. Had to stop and wait for him to get across. I guess he was earning a real good living off thos endangered mt graham squirrels they have up there.
