A year for a camera, pic heavy

Recommended Posts

I put a new camera up last June about a mile below another camera that had been producing some good critters. Each time I went to check my camera up high, I kept running out of time to check the one down low. I wish I had checked it sooner but it came with a pretty cool story when I got to it on Friday.

I set it up 6-20-15.

Over several days later a bear knocks it around and off original aim.

Got a nice bull with the new view that comes back a few times, eventually knocking the camera around himself.

Ended up getting a few elk crossing in the distance.

I think the bears like this spot, several more camera contacts as well.

Ended up with a ton of WT does and a fawn buck which is promising, I'm hoping bigger bucks were hitting the salt unpictured.

This handsome little guy visits this spot or the high spot nearly every day since last fall, seems he is alone a lot too.

Small bull decides to hang out for a few days and eventually knock the camera into position, 4 days before I returned after 11 months!!

Needless to say, I put the camera 8 feet up the tree, and focused on the salt. I'll check it in early august and share back. Also, big props to the cheap Moultrie A5. The batteries still had plenty of juice after 11 months and over 25 contacts with critters messing with it!! All my Moultrie's have been great to me.

Those bears sure do mess up a camera.. One day I found my camera about 20 feet from the tree and it looked like swiss cheese it had so many bite holes in it!!

Great pics!!

After three data cards and two stolen cameras in Unit #27 I'm now collecting pictures of "hikers". After I collect enough pictures and satisfy myself that someone has graduated to the level of "definite suspect" you folks will get a chance on here to help me identify the alleged perpetrators. I'm sick of the low ethics that has developed in our forests lately. I am aware of one guide that is really rolling the dice!

Save it for another thread, please.

You are absolutely right CP. Shame on me for venting my personal frustrations on this very positive post that you started. Very nice job on your posts and underscores the fun we can have (and exercise gained) with trail cameras in the National Forests.

Per your excellent guidance, I will start a separate thread to try and address the unethical behavior that some outdoorsmen are displaying in our forests.

Thank you, sir.

Although I have never had a camera stolen, I understand it's only a matter of time, and I feel your frustration and hate thieves much the same. I hope you have better luck with your cameras in the future and I look forward to following your new thread.

I love checking trail cameras after they've been sitting for months. Always feels like Christmas to me. Awesome pictures

I have literally hundreds of pictures of these 2 bulls in the first few days after setting it up higher in the tree. They taunted me for a few days and then knocked it off the tree completely.

Dang bulls! Left the salt, pulled the camera before their testosterone kicked in for the rut.

Man you have some awesome pics! A couple years ago I boughtsome of those moultries that are supposed to last up to a year on 8 batteries and set it out on a fence crossing of a hot trail. It was a 3 hour hike in and I was nust sure id be safe and getting some awesome, unkown coues bucks on cam. After about 8 months I went in to get it, only to find that a lightning flash had scrambled it and after 6 total hours of hiking and 8 months of waiting I had nothing but a fried memory card....

Im glad your story ended on a happier note.
