PhxDT Report post Posted May 18, 2016 Hey guys- I typically fill out my card with family members for hunts. I have 7 points, my bro has 5 and dad has 6. The last member has 1 point. 7 seems to be a great number, and I have been holding out for late kaibab. Problem is, if I go alone, my chances are the best, but want to be along with family. If I am understanding the draw right, it would be 19 points/ 4 points for an average draw point of my card of 4.75. That would be a bummer and missing out on potential bonus pass. I am not the first to run into this, but I also don't want to file 4 separate submissions. thoughts?
AZbowhntr Report post Posted May 18, 2016 When you are talking about the late Kaibab your odds wouldn't be very much different with one point or seven points. Until you get close to or max points (which I am sure seven is not close). Someone could correct me if I am wrong but I am pretty sure that is how it works. It would all be luck no matter what your points are.
Sneaker Report post Posted May 18, 2016 For the Kaibab late hunts last year the bonus pass was at least 12 points I think for all of them... so you aren't even close even by yourself. For the early hunts, some of them people with 7 points were in the max pools. But, statistically, you are 40% more likely to draw a tag with 7 points than you are with 5(averaged) points in the random draw. You just have to decide if you are willing to make that sacrifice for the guy with 1 point...
trphyhntr Report post Posted May 18, 2016 The difference between 1 and 7 points for the late kaibab hunt is probably 1%
bigorange Report post Posted May 18, 2016 I think it really boils down to whether all 4 want to hunt together. Or you could go 2 and 2 and put in for different hunt dates if you could all 4 do both hunts if both groups draw. In our group it almost always happens that the one guy who puts in alone draws. No matter the points. Last year he hunted mostly alone too due to schedules of everyone else.
DesertBull Report post Posted May 18, 2016 for the bonus pass Last year it took 13 points for the late west side. 12 points for the late east side. 7 points had a 3% chance for both hunts.
PhxDT Report post Posted May 18, 2016 Thanks guys. Now I have to decide if I am willing to put my family before hunting. Hmmmmmmmm.
DesertBull Report post Posted May 18, 2016 You could still all go on the hunt together, even if only one draws a tag.
Red Sparky Report post Posted May 18, 2016 Take for what it is worth. My dad gave up hunting about 10 years ago. The last hunt he went on me with was in 2007 and he can't get out anymore. My uncle, not blood related but I knew him for 44 years, who we always hunted with passed away last year. Now I solo bow hunt and take my daughters out if they draw. I would choose family over any set of antlers I have harvested. I have the memories to look back on but they are just that, memories.
lancetkenyon Report post Posted May 19, 2016 My whole family puts in by themselves. That way, odds of draw are better. And I get to go with one of them no matter what. Whether I am carrying the tag or not, it is ALWAYS a fantastic hunt when I am with a family member.
AZ8 Report post Posted May 19, 2016 Problem with multiple people on one app is if your number comes up, yet only one tag is left, the entire app is thrown out. My buddies and I cut the cord many years ago and put in solo only. We're in the 14,15,16 point pool now. But then again, 13B is the only hunt on our app. One of us will pull a tag soon and we'll all join in the fun!
