Edge Report post Posted May 15, 2016 Iv done it a few times. Seems to work more on fox than anything elseYeah I went out a few nights two years ago and called in about four fox. Several owls came in too. What a rush though, calling at night. In 42 and 44a you can bust a lion too. Hoping to find sign like I did 2 years ago.
nateNAU Report post Posted May 15, 2016 Me and some buds do it all the time. We set up lawn chairs in a circle in the middle of fields and each spotlight our own direction. We are wanting to build some kind of platform to give us some elevation, but we have yet to design something that we would want to carry to all our sets. I wish az would change the rules about hunting from a vehicle for these night hunts. Those texas boys have some nice rigs for night hunting.
6AYoteHunter Report post Posted May 15, 2016 Recommend that you listen for a pack then move within a 1/4 mile without lights before calling. Decreases your chance of calling in things other than coyotes.

I try not to shine the light more than a few feet ahead of me when walking.
6AYoteHunter Report post Posted May 15, 2016 Yep those rattlesnakes can be a pain. I normally avoid thick cover or deep grass at night since with a red light you will still miss some. If you plan to night call a lot buy some turtle skin snake gaiters. I got the largest size they make so they fit over my boots easier and are cooler on the calf.
6AYoteHunter Report post Posted May 15, 2016 I even wear them now when catfishing from the bank. Come in handy during dove season.

Bought mine 4 years ago. Just warm weather hiking I have worn out 2 pairs of kenetreks and a pair of Lowa Baffin pros are about halfway gone now. I tie the gaiters to my laces with Para cord from the bottom side of the grommets. This will wear some on the laces. Have to replace kenetrek laces about halfway through the rubber wear on the bottoms.
6AYoteHunter Report post Posted May 16, 2016 My dad uses the $60 snake gaiters from cabelas but they make you sweat like crazy and are loud in catclaw. Incase anyone is wondering CroFab is costing around $2800 a vial right now. See most bites in the lower legs and hands. FYI the anti-venom does not work so well on the Mojave rattlesnakes with type A venom which is highly neurotoxic. Saw a case that required 27 vials. Heard of a case with 42 vials.
