yotebuster Report post Posted May 13, 2016 If the tags are returned to the dept they go to the next person in line. Or you can donate them to one of the two org's that take sick kids or wounded vets out... so maybe the year i get called on a returned tag, do i have to make a split decision over the phone 2 weeks out from a trophy hunt? In Nevada you choose whether or not you want to be on alternate list. So if that's something you're not comfortable with then you just opt out. Seems like a system like that will make sense. Or you can just say "no". Same difference as not drawing it in the old system.

Nope, 1 day. First bullet. Here is the process to surrender a hunt permit-tag: A hunt permit-tag must be surrendered prior to the close of business the day before the start of that particular hunt. Wow. Shake my head.
CouesPursuit Report post Posted May 13, 2016 Well, to be fair, they have options! According to rule (R12-4-118), the department has several options for the reissuance of a surrendered hunt permit-tag. The proximity to the start of a particular hunt, the type of hunt permit-tag, and demand for that hunt permit-tag will factor into how it will be reissued. yotebuster Report post Posted May 13, 2016 Again. Why not just say "no I don't want a unit 1 early rifle tag this short of notice". Seems kinda nice to have the option doesn't it? Maybe I'm weird but I guess id take it. If I didn't have time I'd say "no thank you" and someone else would be in for wonderful surprise.

krp Report post Posted May 13, 2016 The original proposal was linked with the Portal and a paid premium membership. Premium members had fist choice of returned tags. Also there was no limit on how many times you could turn tags in. This new system will be advantageous for those that can figure it out. I'll hunt 3 dec coues tags in the next 5 years... if I want. Str8Shot Report post Posted May 13, 2016 You can only do it once and then you have to start accruing bonus points all over again after the next time you draw ... Would not take but a few years where a family of 5 or 6 with 4 or five non hunters could become a constant cycle for the one or two Hunters to start every year with 5 - 6 bonus points Not to mention The loyalty and Hunter Ed point. I would be willing to Bet it will be abused more than the number of times a tag is surrendered for a real emergency or hardship... I know a few people over the years that have donated good tags, that cost them a lot of points, do to medical reasons, and while they were bummed none were overly upset. uofahughes2 Report post Posted May 13, 2016 This has potential for a 30 pager. If you're next on the list and accept a tag, do you forfeit your points like you would have if you drew the tag originally?
elkaholic Report post Posted May 13, 2016 Did you miss this fact that they can reissue the tag however they want - if its a premo unit / tag - it may never get to the list ! ^^^^
krp Report post Posted May 13, 2016 I might as well use my 4 deer points to help a buddy with 1 or 2 pull a 3 BP hunt, like mule deer in 23 or 22... the dec coues tag I want takes 5 and I'll get that hunt the next year. The person that would have drawn my tag won't even know they could have drawn and I'm sure will be just as happy with their 3rd, 4th or 5th basically leftovers choice.
