CouesPursuit Report post Posted May 9, 2016 Beyond the quality of time spent with family and friends, how do you justify hunting to the non-hunters around you? Do you use any interesting facts or put any science behind it?
Snapshot Report post Posted May 9, 2016 It depends if the non hunter will listen to logic, fact, and reason. The anti's see nothing but a dead animal. They don't care about conservation, or the economics of the hunting industry as a whole.
Str8Shot Report post Posted May 9, 2016 Most of those individuals I know that are against Hunting are ignorant of facts and Science and thus not worth the breath taken to justify ... I usually ask them, "When are you going to give up eating any meat?" They usually shut up pretty quick. granted I do not have any vegan or vegetarian friends. Phil Beavers Report post Posted May 9, 2016 I wouldn't even waste my breath, fortunately for me no one in my circle is that lame. Like the guy above me said ^^^^ they really have no idea about the conservation or the economics of hunting.
CouesPursuit Report post Posted May 9, 2016 Completely agree, guys. I did specifically use the words non-hunter. Let's assume we are talking to individuals who are open to listening and reasoning, not Anti's. I'm looking to get perspective in a professional manner, as I have an opportunity to address a significant number of folks of which most wish to understand. I was hoping to capture a few points in my speech I wouldn't have thought of myself.

CouesPursuit Report post Posted May 9, 2016 I don't hang out with people who need me to justify my actions to them. And you also don't help the perception of the hunting community with your ignorance.
Snapshot Report post Posted May 9, 2016 Hunters are not blood thirsty killers. We enjoy our time in the outdoors, hunting game, just as the early settlers did. We teach ourselves, and our children the value of nature, and how to be outdoorsman, and practice ethical hunting, as well as fair chase. We eat what we harvest. Hunting provides great conservation, and wildlife management tools. Hunting provides jobs and industry , and is a multi-billion dollar industry worldwide. just to name a few.
firstcoueswas80 Report post Posted May 9, 2016 Explaining carrying capacity is usually the best scientific method I have found. Although a lot of times people don't understand that it is in fact factual and scientific.
firstcoueswas80 Report post Posted May 9, 2016 Also, I quickly explain to them that other states run hunting and Wildlife Management a lot better than Arizona does.
ctafoya Report post Posted May 9, 2016 no point wasting time. I don't justify my way of life to anyone.

Heat Report post Posted May 9, 2016 1. God's Word tells us in Genesis that hunting is legit. 2. We evolved to hunt and eat meat (if you believe in evolution). 3. Organic, non-GMO, gluten free, no additives, no hormones, no antibiotics, etc. Some people simply won't listen to reason or facts however. Their ability to understand is clouded by emotion. I have a cousin with a wife like this. She has a PhD so clearly not "dumb". She told me once that all hunting is poaching and that wildlife biology is mostly politically influenced and not based on sound science. Not worth the waste of breath with her and the like.
Str8Shot Report post Posted May 9, 2016 CouesPursuit ... I think the issue is using the word Justify ... In all honesty as a few have stated Being part of the natural order and a part of the living eco system which is the biology of this planet does not nor should have to be justified. Hunting (not talking about trophy) is one of the few ways that in a modern world, individuals can still learn, become closer, and become more of a part of the process in our planets eco system. Through hunting most of us gain a level of respect for our living planet, that goes beyond what the average person and non hunter can ever understand. Instead of justifying I would suggest Making your audience aware and educated on how Hunting is a part of a natural process. As stated use science such as carrying capacity, like Firstcoues stated. Speak of conservation and how hunting has done more in the last 100 years for re-establishing, growing and maintaining Big game herds as well as non hunted game throughout The U.S. and many parts the World. I do not see why any person should have to Justify being a part of and performing a process that has been part of human existence for 200,000 years ...
