HuntHarder Report post Posted May 9, 2016 I too am interested in some powders for my 270wsm flinging the 140's. Magpro has caught my eye because of the velocity produced, as well as Nosler data indicating it being their most accurate powder tested with a 140 AB. Have any of you guys shot Magpro to determine how temperature sensitive it is? I usually stick to Hodgdon's "extreme" line of powders to minimize fps variation here in Az. Does anyone have any experience with Magpro?
firstcoueswas80 Report post Posted May 9, 2016 I was getting 3250 with h4831sc from my 270wsm and 140 accubonds with amazing accuracy.
CraigK Report post Posted May 9, 2016 Dang Casey that's impressive velocity. Do you remember the charge on that?
firstcoueswas80 Report post Posted May 9, 2016 I do, but I would not recommend it. It was absolute max in my rifle and over book max. Imr4350 is what my buddies use, id try that too.
CraigK Report post Posted May 9, 2016 Yea I hear you, I'm not going to load for max, I'm loading for my brother in law so I'm going to keep it mild. If I come across 4350 or 4831sc I'll give them a try. I may try h1000 too, as I've got plenty of that. Just curious what others recommend and are using. CraigK Report post Posted May 9, 2016 Also seems rl22 is the easiest of the powders to find so I may go that route
firstcoueswas80 Report post Posted May 9, 2016 I've got a pound of 4350 I could spare ya.
dse Report post Posted May 9, 2016 I load for 4 rifles in 270 wsm using rl-22. I've used Barnes, Nosler,& Swift bullets all between 130-150 gr. All shoot sub moa. My current load is 130gr Swift scirocco over rl-22 @3350 fps, getting 4" groups at 800 yds.
Coach Report post Posted May 9, 2016 IMR 4350 or 4821sc
lionhunter Report post Posted May 30, 2016 Imr 4350, 62 gr pushing 140 AB is getting 3255 fps with great accuracy I also tried RL17 at 61 gr shot a little faster and grouped well also. 4350 at 64 gr pushing a 130 AB was my load for years (3350 fps) worked great on many deer and elk, but wanted the high bc in the 140 gr. the only gun a guy needs in AZ GOOD LUCK
