Non-Typical Solutions Report post Posted May 2, 2016 My son Wyatt and I were on our first morning to hunt turkey this past Saturday. I knew where we had seen some turkey before and thought I had this great idea on how we were going to get at them. We parked right on the rim just above Blue Vista and headed west on the fence line......only real way to get through all the downed logs along the rim there. It is pre-dawn and just as we are parking a small car pulls up and asks if we know where Aker Lake is? I have spent many hours kicking around that neck of the woods and the name sounded familiar but I told the guy I didn't know where it was. Wyatt and I hike in a mile along that fence line get ourselves worked into position and try to get some turkey talk going.but everything is silent. So as planned we continued to do some slow walking trying to see if we could find anything out and about. Wyatt was sitting down for a Cosmic Brownie break and I went to peek over the edge of the rim, when I come back there is the same guy from earlier that morning, fully decked out with a fly rod, fishing vest, several different spools for his fly rod and a fishing net hanging on his back. He was certain that Aker Lake had to be some where close but I told him I had never seen a lake anywhere near Blue Vista. He asked me what was just south of where we stood and I said...well the edge of the world for this part of the country. He informed me he would go south anyway and take a look. So Wyatt and I decide to take a very vague 2 tracker north to look for new country to gobble in and we have been walking for about 10 minutes when all the sudden I hear foot steps behind me and here is the fisherman guy again. Fisherman:"Wow....there is no way there is a lake that direction!" As I chuckled he proceeded to tell me he was going to continue looking for Aker lake, I told him I was pretty sure it was not in that general area. He told me when his iphone died the map he was looking at showed it was right there somewhere and proceeded to follow the fence west. Truly a wild and interesting encounter during our morning hunt. I later did find out where Aker lake is located and oh boy......that poor fisherman, hope he isn't on the evening news!!! I knew there had to be something fishy about him looking for a lake there!!!! IA Born Report post Posted May 2, 2016 Its a great little "lake" that I discovered on my first Unit 27 turkey hunt. I've fished it once unsuccessfully, but its on my list to get back to!
kwp Report post Posted May 2, 2016 I bet he ran into Lark on his way up the trail and Lark told him about the great fishin there. Unfortunately he couldn't understand Lark's redneck slang directions and ended up getting lost.
