257wby Report post Posted May 1, 2016 Just got a new Rem 700 CDL in 257 Weatherby. First shot at the range (Hornady), and I can't get the fired case out of the chamber. Use my cleaning rod to tap it out, took way more pressure than I thought it should. Grab another round, by Nosler this time, same result. Start to notice rub marks on the case just above the belt. Once I got home, I took my calipers and measured the cases. Factory, I fired cases were 0.5090, and the spent cases were 0.5130. Just trying to figure out if this rifle needs to go back to Remington to get the chamber looked at, or what else could it be?
DesertBull Report post Posted May 1, 2016 Maybe your extractor isn't right?
rossislider Report post Posted May 1, 2016 My buddy had the exact same problem a couple of years ago with his Remington Sendero 7mm Mag. He tried all kinds of things himself without success. Ultimately he took it to a gunsmith who polished the chamber. Pretty simple, but that did the trick. Hasn't had a problem since and it is a tack driver.
Kingzero Report post Posted May 2, 2016 Maybe the chamber or primary extraction not timed right. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=szy4HBg3q80

Couzer Report post Posted May 2, 2016 Sounds like a chamber problem
5guyshunting Report post Posted May 2, 2016 Remington kinda sucks a$$ these days. I'd put the blame on them.
lancetkenyon Report post Posted May 2, 2016 My first impression, before others chimed in, is rough chamber too.
L Cazador Report post Posted May 3, 2016 You have an issue that should be handled by Remington. Call them and get instructions on what to do. Unless it's a factory authorized repair, I wouldn't mess with it. If those measurements are of the cartridge head, that is a lot of expansion. That would be a chamber dimension issue best addressed by Remington.
1denogean Report post Posted May 3, 2016 i had the same issue a few years back, Remington will fix it free of charge if you send it back to them

Couzer Report post Posted May 3, 2016 Yep keep us updated! I had the same exact issue with a AR that was built here locally. I had sent the AR upper back in and had it checked out. After getting it back it shot flawlessly. Funny thing the is the company said they found nothing but there might have been a burr in the chamber.
257wby Report post Posted June 12, 2016 Well, I got the rifle back last week and finally made it back to the range this morning. Brass still isn't coming out the way it should. I can get it out without using a cleaning rod, but I am still having to tap on the bolt handle. The gun smith that Remington had me send it to, claims to have test fired it and found no issues. Not sure I believe that as I don't know any gunsmiths who keep that caliber laying around. I guess I am going to have to call Remingon, hope I don't have to get too nasty with them. Love this caliber, but I don't want to have to spend the $$$ for a Weatherby Accumark. Good thing deer season isn't starting soon.
Splatt Report post Posted June 12, 2016 It didn't go to Spraig's did it ? Took a week shy of 6 months to fix my 11-87 , 20 gauge. Simple resolver the recoil tube back on, but when finished , was told they welded it on. I couldn't done either, but there's a warning about messing up the temperament, if done wrong. Welding doesn't? ? Get some IOSSO paste, put a soft jag on a short rod, in a hand drill, and Polish away !
