&*%$ trail camera thief's strike again

Recommended Posts

Well I went to check my camera this morning and low and behold it was gone, AGAIN! This is the second camera I've had stolen in 1 month. To add insult to injury. The #$$ hole dumped a huge pile of corn and horse feed 5 feet from where my camera was. Who ever it is, He has balls. I'm planning on going back in there tommorow with as much dog crap and horse crap I can find and dump it all over the area. I cant believe someone would steel a camera and then plan on hunting that same area. What an $%% hole!

P.S. The camera was a wildview 2. I used an ink marker to write my name and number all over it. So if any of you guys see this camera please take it down and let me know. The camera was off the Bear Flatt road by the river in 22. I've hunted this area before and never seen anyone in this paticular spot. I thought it was safe, but I was definatly wrong. Be carefull guys.

Sure is a crappy feeling when you walk up the the tree where you know your camera should be and its not.... I can relate, sorry to hear that it has happened twice. I actually found one while hiking in 6a this morning, and let it be....what an amazing concept.

Mike the problem is I cant actually see the camera in the guys hands. If I could I would post the pics. I dont want to miss blame someone. The first camera was on MT Ord in between the two springs neer the first right turn and this one was in another area. I'm so tired of working everyday to make a living and to only have some jerk not only steel my camer, but take the fun away from this amazing sport.

Ok I understand since they are diff. locations.

I also understand you can not see the cam in the guys hands

but if it is the guys we think it is we can go to the WM

and if he sees their truck somewhere he might just wait and see what they come back with

Just a thought for you Guys

I have a very inexpensive engraver that I use to engrave

nasty notes on the back a well as my name or the last 4 of my social

It may stop them from steeling it or busting it all to crap

but at least they are less likely to be able to sell it outright

I'm not sure if they take them apart to build home brews or what

but it is 1 more thing we can do to protect or investment

Mad Mike

I'll bet you could buy a cheap engraver at Harbor Freight for less than $10.00

Very sorry to hear about your second camera. I've got 2 out now, but haven't put my 3rd out anywhere due to not finding a secure enough out of the way spot. Just goes to show there aren't very many 'honey holes' left anymore...

Stinks to think it is fellow hunters ripping each other off...

I use an engraver as well to engrave my name and phone number in at least 8-10 different places all over the camera... I figure if they are going to re-use it they are going to have to file the heck out of it to get rid of the engravings.

Thanks for the idea. I like the idea of ingraving the camera. I'm going to try that. I would love to paint it pink so it would be very identifiable, but it would also be very noticiable. Thanks and good luck with your camera's.

My uncle, being the smartest guy I know, came up with a good idea to prevent his cameras from being stolen. He has a lockable box that his camera fits in, smaller than a shoebox, and he has a lockable 5 gallon can that he mounts the camea box to. When he is ready to set it, he sets up the 5 gallon bucket and fills it with rocks so that it weighs around 60-70 lbs., then locks it shut and then locks his camera into the box mounted to the bucket. He sets out his cameras in a lot of areas where there are not many trees to use, so the bucket works well, and if someone wants to steal it, they will have to pack the whole thing out.

sounds silly but I attached a sign telling the dumb @$$ that this camera is being monitored by another camera . They can spend hours looking for the other camera or just leave mine alone. Or take their chances .............

I encourage you engravers to write your info on the inside also. The outside could be covered and not look obvious but if the inside is ground off it looks more suspicious. Also the "Stolen From" before your name adds a nice touch. ;)
