Youth Turkey Success

Recommended Posts

We had a rough start to our hunt with some pretty nasty wind followed up with snow. Couldn't seem to hear anything or get anything to respond to the call. But you can only slow a great turkey hunter down for so long. Master caller TRKHNTR has been coaching us turkey newbies and called in this beautiful gobbler early yesterday morning and another for a friend's son a little later in the day. I can't express how much we appreciated his help.

Hahaha I'd rather be lucky then good or like you put it "master caller". enjoyed hunting with you and those young men six people in the same turkey woods at the same time makes for a tough hunt but we got it done. we put on a lot of foot miles and hunted for over 15 hours everyday and those young men were there for every step and every hour.

@rossislider where you up last weekend in 23 for the Jr Turkey hunt? NWTF and AES along with Phoenix Varmint Callers helped run the camp. Great place for kids and parents to learn. We hunted in the snow and howling winds, heard birds, didn't see them.

Congrats to your son and sons friend.

Hit up Little Creek Calls here or at http://www.littlecreekcalls.com/ he makes great calls and is local to us in QC. He made me a pot, box and mouth call. He donated a call to the camp for a drawing gift.

We were up in unit 1. We did get into the camp there a few times over the weekend. The weather was pretty nasty for us as well. Couldn't hear anything and I doubt they could hear us calling either. We finally got a little break from the wind on Sunday and were able to get it done that morning.

My son and I were able to make it to Ammon's (Little Creek Calls) seminar at Sportsmans Warehouse the week before the hunt. I also got some coaching from Ammon last year. He is a great guy. Sorry we missed you at the camp in 23.

My son and his same friend drew the youth cow hunt up in unit 1 this October. We are much better and more experienced elk hunters than we are turkey, but might have to check out that camp anyway. They are always a great experience for the boys.

Awesome Seam and congratulations to your son. There are so many great people here on CWT that just makes me so proud to be part of this group. Kudos TRKHNTR! :)
