MuggyMan Report post Posted April 11, 2016 Made a quick overnighter up to rim country. Saw elk, turkeys, (there was a roost not far from our camp and one was gobbling), coyotes, but didn't find any sheds. Found one dead head someone had already cut the antlers off. Saw 3 spikes still carrying their horns. Do spikes drop later than bigger, mature elk?
Jimmer Negamanee Report post Posted April 12, 2016 It's always great to get away and see some beautiful country and you saw some cool stuff too. Regarding your question, yes, generally the smaller the antlers, the longer it takes them to drop. I've seen spikes during the first (late April) turkey season. Sometimes it's just one antler but I've seen them packing both.
