trailcam security

Recommended Posts

After seeing all the excellent trailcam photos you guys have been posting I decided to finally get one. Also after hearing about camera thieves I also decided to try and secure my camera a little. Does anyone else build security boxes for thier cameras?

Here are some photos of it, I still have to camo it. It's made out of 16ga stainless steel and all welded, my camera is the Moultrie 4.0.

Looks great! Might want to put a couple of drain holes in the bottom unless it isn't fully sealed/welded at the bottom to let rain drain out.

How much do you figure you have in it and/or how much will you charge for making me one? :)

Are you going to secure it to the tree with Lag Bolts?

There are drain holes in the bottom, I am going to make a couple of straps and weld them across the back with holes in the end to strap to the tree.

I am a shop foreman at a manufacturing shop here in Tucson so I just used scrap stainless and built it on my own time using shop equiptment so it didn't cost me a dime other than a little time. I probably have aroung 2 hours into it.

That looks Identical to the ones Coues and Sheep builds. There is a thread he posted a little while ago with some

better pics of his bear box than what I am posting below.

You didn't steal Gino's design and copyright it did ya Azpack????????

Those boxes are pretty tough.

Your box looks good and I'm sure it will be a good deterrant. Just remember that your security box will only keep honest men honest!!!! If someone wants your camera bad enough they will still get it! Don't get yourself too comfortable with your security box and put it out on water holes or areas where a lot of people visit. Often times if someone can't steal it they will destroy it. I've personally had two cameras stolen and one camera destroyed.

I thought mine was pretty secure with the big cable lock I had securing it to the tree. When I lost the key for the lock I was quite surprised that the smallest, cheapest pair of bolt cutters from Home Depot cut right thorugh the cable like butter!!!

Good luck!

Just what I was going to say. Looks good, Brian. Too bad some people, if they can't steal it, still have access to destroy it!

Hmmm... ... Looks like you upgraded my design... ;) ... Looks great! I would stiffen the backer plate and and then if you use lag bolts from the inside, plus the locks and a cable.... ... I don't think that anyone will be able to do much to them then. I carry a cordless drill and a cordless impact to the field with me to install mine. Once you have two 3" lags into the tree from the inside, (using 1/2" washers on the back side so shim your angle right) someone will need a bag of tools or a sledge hammer to mees with your camera. :) Good luck!
