Lasik Surgery and Kamra Inlay

Recommended Posts

Add one more to the "best money I have spent" list.

I'm a big ol' baby when it comes to surgical stuff, but they told me everything that was going to happen ahead of time and walked me through the procedure. The weirdest part for me was wondering what that weird burning smell was and then realizing it was my eye.

It was over quickly and noticed an improvement a few hours later. Eyes were gritty for a couple days. That's it.

I love not messing with contacts on hunts and camping trips.

After 5 years of hem-hawing about it, I finally had Lasik done last July (15). We paid $2790 (after taxes) for both eyes at Barnet-Dulaney-Perkins here in Flagstaff. Its usually about $3500-$4000 for both eyes The cheaper price was because of a great first responder discount they offered for me being a wildland firefighter. Like others have said it was the best money I've ever spent on myself. My eyes burned like Hades on the drive home but, after a 2.5-hour nap, I woke up to perfect vision. At my follow up the next morning, I was 20/20. I had the procedure done on a Thursday, ran a 5K on Saturday, and then got on a plane to a remote little town in West Virginia on Sunday. I was nervous about being 30+ minutes from the nearest medical facility, but it all worked out.

Your eyes may adjust a little over time. After almost a year, I'm 20/20 in my right eye, 20/25 in my left eye, and 20/15 with both eyes combined. My eye doctor has discouraged me from fixing my left eye because of the normal shift in eyesight for guys approaching mid-40s. According to him, I'll be able to avoid reading glasses for 10-15 years because of the differential. And like others have said, to not have to worry about packing contacts, extra contacts, contact solution, glasses, etc. on hunting/camping trips, soccer weekends, family trips, etc. is absolutely awesome!

No idea what the Karma Inlay is, but if I were a candidate for Lasik, I'd do it in a heartbeat. I hate wearing glasses! Mom mom and all my siblings had Lasik, and every one of them love it. Unfortunately I had to be the one with the astigmatism that is just a hair past the threshold that makes me ineligible.

Same here.. I cant get Lasik because I have keratoconus.. I hate wearing contacts especially hunting.

With 20x zoom capability

I want one that can see through lace and unclasp a bra at twenty yards with just a twitch of the eye.

Seriously??? You want a company or Dr that advertises and uses Groupon to cut into you eye?????...get some good references and pick an established Dr... Your eyes shouldn't be given to the lowest bidder...

They're is a coupon on Groupon for both eyes for $1800, thinking about having a consult there.

Didn't you see that King of Queens!?! Half off the second eye? Bad idea.

Thanks for all of the information. I am going to go for it. Lasik first then Kamra inlay 60 days later.

You won't regret it. Whichever group you go with, ask about financing options, too. Barnett-Dulaney (HQ in Phx; used to do all their surgeries there) offered me 18 months no interest payments through Care Credit. That, along with the first responder discount made it that much harder to say no, finally. Good luck!
