muledeerarea33? Report post Posted April 4, 2016 I'm about the 4500-5k elevation zone 7-8? In need of a few non invasive shade tree recommendations. Considering Arizona ash, and Ray wood ash. All on the west north/west side. They'll be getting a lot of the afternoon heat. High temps are 103 and low winters are 0 to teens. They'll be planted 50' or more from leach lines but close to waste lines. What do you all got? I could post this on the "2016 elk hit" thread but it seemed to lose steem lol

kkay Report post Posted April 4, 2016 I love the Texas fan ash. They're hardy like the Az ash, but ball out and have smooth leaves. Very good looking tree
carpcody Report post Posted April 4, 2016 I just planted an az ash 2 weeks ago. I like the look and theyre supposed to have something like 25-35 feet of growth per year. I also did a couple mulberry trees, a Chilean mesquite and a few fruit trees. I like mulberrys the most but they take a while to get big, the Chileans are pretty fast growing and get to a good size also.

Mulberry is an option too and I have plenty of mesquite that I'm working with. They're my biggest trees so far but they came with the land lol. Fruit trees are in and pines are going up soon for a wind break. Thanks for all the info so far.
naturebob Report post Posted April 4, 2016 No ash tree will grow that fast. Fact they are a modrerate grower ,maybe 2ft a year or a little more..At 5K ft in elavation I wouldn't use mesquite too cold.I don't think You would get much growth if they live.........BOB! carpcody Report post Posted April 4, 2016 lol yea that was a little off:) I meant to say 25-35 total height. And yes I do believe they are a faster growing tree. Maybe not the fastest but not a slow grower like a mulberry.
Chris Report post Posted April 5, 2016 Why not pine tree? They just need water every now and then! We had 3 at over 50' here in Phx. Some pine is better at 4500 than others.
