Ammo prices increasing

Recommended Posts

I was in a the local dealer and he noted that the wholesale prices will go up 15% on Sept 1, and another 15% at the beginning of the year. Just a heads up to those planning on purchasing factory ammo. I would suspect component prices will be increasing also, but have not heard how much and when.

ammo has been on a steady rise for about 2 years now. More so in the last 6 months. I have pretty much started reloading everything I have and finding used brass at the popular shooting spots to cut down on costs. they say it is from the cost of materials to make a loaded round. but if thats the case how come a box of .380 costs more that a box of 40 cal or 9mm????? I dont know.

Hummm.... does this have anything to do with the price of copper at the $3/lb range? Thanx for the heads up.

380 is a less common caliber compared to the other two. I wanted to buy some RCBS loading dies for my wifes old 38 S&W and they wanted $150 bucks for them. I only found one company that makes brass for it. Fortunately LEE had some dies that were $22.00

I've heard that the price increases are in part due to the manufacturers producing so much ammo for the war in Iraq. It's not just the price of ammo, it's also the price of the components as well. I heard a couple of the primer manufacturers are not producing any more for sale to the public. They are only producing for the military right now. As a result the price of primers has tripled recently.

I know that a box of shells for my .338 went up almost $20 in less than a year. Sucks
