A Good Day

Recommended Posts

April Fools Day turned out to be a good day.
1) Arizona Game & Fish charged my card for an elk tag.
2) ATF charged me $200 in the start of the suppressor process.
3) I got my rifle back form the local gunsmith. I have a Winchester Model 70 Super Grade that I had rebarrelled rot a 6.5WSM several years ago, but is was not shooting up to standards with 5-shot groups in the range of 1-1.5" So I had Evan put on a Shilen Select Match SS #3 contour in 1-8 twist, 26", still chambered in 6.5 WSM. Threaded and capped for a suppressor. Graphite black Cerakote. I treated it with Ultra Bore Cote before any test firing.

This is a 0.427" 3-shot group within the first 10 shots to cure the UBC. The load was a handload of 130gr Scirocco II and 66.5gr Ramshot Magnum.

Looking forward to shooting the 6.5WSM and 6.5CM this weekend.
I have some of the new 143 Hornady ELDX bullets to try in the CM. I think the Sciroccos in the WSM will be just fine on elk.

That's an awesome looking rifle, and obviously shoots as good as it looks. I'm a little ticked though, I am a huge WSM fan, I've got 270 WSM and 300 WSM, I just built a 6.5x284 Norma that shoots amazing, so now I'm in love with 6.5. Now Doug shows us a 6.5 WSM which I didn't even know existed - that's gonna cost me because now I just have to build one.

Those Shilen barrels are awesome - huge congrats on building the perfect rifle where form meets function.

Is that a 40 mm or the 50 mm objective, and is it a 30 mm tube??
