zjherna1 Report post Posted March 30, 2016 Got my first unit 23 turkey tag coming up with opening day being on the 29th and I'm pumped! I'm trying to get some wisdom on what to expect. I haven't got a chance to get out scouting yet due to school being hectic lately but I want to concentrate my efforts on Colcord road. Thoughts or tips on this? Will they still be gobbling by opening day? Any info will be greatly appreciated guys
Couestracker Report post Posted March 30, 2016 I suggest going to the upcoming turkey hunting seminars, and volunteer at the NWTF Youth camp on Colcord Ridge the weekend of the 15th. You will pickup a lot of needed info.
Coues79 Report post Posted March 30, 2016 They'll be gobbling early morning then and die off as they hit the ground. Very occassional gobbles from then on. Likely be henned up and tough to pull in from the hens. Don't neglect middle of the day setups in areas where there are birds. Quite a few birds in 23 scattered all over. Have fun. PRDATR Report post Posted March 30, 2016 Go up this weekend and get out in the woods around 5:30 in the morning and listen for gobbles. Then walk around and look for poop and feathers. They will roost in the bigger pines up about 40'.
