JLW Report post Posted March 25, 2016 The D-backs are already asking for a new stadium. Unbelievable. the county's assessor (not the Diamondbacks) said they need 187 mil in repairs. the 4th oldest stadium in the national league. since the inauguration it has brought 8.2 billion in revenue. tax payers spent 247 mil and the diamondbacks spent 200 mil when it was built they want to stay.. they want to redo the stadium remove 10,000 seats. if the county can't pay for it they should be able to find other investors, just do an addendum to the lease so they can look elsewhere for $ (not to move) . downtown phoenix needs them to stay... they may pitch in. if the county is breaching the contract then they suck! They are supposed to do the up keep on the building and if they breach and leave maracopa county tax payers with an empty building shame on them.... get it figured out. If they screw it up they will go to SRIC to get a new stadium built James
bonecollector Report post Posted March 25, 2016 James is right on. The 187 million needed for repairs doesn't include the removal of the seats, it's just for repairs to the building. Maricopa county doesn't have the money to spend on the repairs so as a landlord they are breaching their contract. The Dbacks have told the county they will take over the maint of the building so the TAX payer doesn't have to, if they would reduce their rent and the county refuses to reduce the rent.
wish2hunt Report post Posted March 25, 2016 Why do they want to remove 10,000 seats?
DesertBull Report post Posted March 25, 2016 The d-backs said they would rather the $187m go toward a new stadium instead of repairs.
bonecollector Report post Posted March 25, 2016 That money would be coming from the tax payers. They could probably get a new stadium fully funded from the SRIC
DesertBull Report post Posted March 25, 2016 MENU TEAMS logo image Diamondbacks Seek To Pursue New Ballpark March 24th, 2016 at 9:59pm CST By Jeff Todd Chase Field opened in 1998, the year of the Diamondbacks inception, and has long drawn praise from the baseball community. But if the D-backs have it their way, it may not be their home for much longer, as Craig Harris of the Arizona Republic reports. In a letter to the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors, President and CEO Derrick Hall argued that there is no reasonable recourse for the club but to pursue other stadium options. The problem, from the clubs perspective, is that the Maricopa County Stadium District the board-controlled entity that owns the park has failed to honor its alleged obligation to account for upwards of $187MM in maintenance and repair costs through 2027. Hall puts it in even more dramatic terms in a statement released by the club today. This spiral is insurmountable, he said, apparently referring to the lack of funding for capital improvements, and will result in a Chase Field that will no longer be a state-of-the-art facility as our agreement requires and may, in fact, become unsuitable for continued use. We cannot risk being put in that position.
