shortpants Report post Posted August 4, 2007 I have a model 5600 Econominder that was installed by Global Water Solutions back in 1996. Recently it just stopped working. The salt no longer dissolves in the brine tank. I have checked all the screens for clogs and the timer appears to still be in working order. If I don't find somebody to fix this thing soon my wife will have a brand new one installed while I'm gone hunting! If anybody on here knows how to get this thing working again I'll pay you for your time. I'm not looking for a CW. com discount I just need this thing fixed A.S.A.P. Thankyou, Jason

Thankyou, Jason Try replacing the brine tank, they are very cheap (usually less than $20) and sometimes they create a salt bridge, where the salt crystals fuse together and dont dissolve and thats all you can do. Other than that most units are mechanical operation so there isnt alot to go wrong other than leaks or blockages. Hope this does the trick.
shortpants Report post Posted August 5, 2007 I took all the salt out of the brine tank looking for a salt bridge but found nothing. Could the bridge be where I can't see it?
grizzly Report post Posted August 6, 2007 No the bridge would be the salt crusting over at the top which means the float stops the water before it gets to the salt and the water doesnt ever touch the salt. So that probably is not it. Have you checked the float inside the white tube that is inside the brine tank? Maybe one of the hoses came loose inside there. Have you cycled it through manually to see if it is sucking the brine water out of the tank? Where in the valley do you live?
shortpants Report post Posted August 6, 2007 I live in Gilbert. I pulled the float out and looked at it but I didn't find anything broke so I put it back. I have run it manually and water is going through just fine but the salt just sits there??? I used to add a bag of salt @ once a month. The bag thats in there now has been in there for 3-4 months now???
grizzly Report post Posted August 6, 2007 I am going to be in Gilbert this afternoon at Val Vista and Riggs, I could stop by and look at it. I have installed lots of water softeners but never serviced any so maybe I can help or maybe not. Give me a call at 480-695-7401 and I will see what I can do.
