RIP Nancy Reagan

Recommended Posts

I'm in So Cal now and coverage of Nancy is huge. We are not far from the library, cool place to visit, that place will be packed now.

Great First Lady!

A very gracious woman.

Christmas Eve, 1981; I was the lowest ranking enlisted man in the unit. I was paired up with the lowest ranking NCO to work the night shift at Luke AFB WX. Even the surprise visit of base commander Brig. Gen Canterbury wearing a Santa cap and bearing homemade Christmas cookies couldn't diminish my depression from being away from family and home over the holidays. How many more holidays would I be screwed out of till I could stick it to the next new guy?

Routinely, pilots would call us via radio for landing data and it was up to the ranking man to answer. On that night, my NCO had just stepped out for a cigarette when the radio crackled,

"Air Force One to Luke Metro, come in please."

I about crapped my dress blues. I looked down the halls, no NCO. I picked up the mic.

"Luke Metro, Amn Morrison."

"Air Force One requesting landing weather, Sky Harbor Airport?"

I read off the data to the pilot with undoubtedly the most important cargo imagineable, President Reagan and the First Lady.

I reached for the call log expecting to next hear only Air Force One, out. But instead a moment later the pilot came back over the radio.

"The President and First Lady have asked me to wish you a Merry Christmas and thank you for your service. Air Force One, out."

Do I think the Reagan's asked the pilot to convey this message? I certainly do. ;)

Great story Edge! and I thank you for your service also!

You're too kind. I was just a dumb kid

The NCO that night came back in and I told him I just talked to Air Force One and he screamed with laughter. That is until he read the log. Later, our fearless leaders advised us Nancy Reagan's mother lived in the valley(?) and we could expect more chats with AF1 and there better not be any lowly airman answering the radio.

I enlisted under Carter but was proud of the Reagan's. I'm sad to hear of her passing.

Nancy was a class act. Michelle Obama is a disgrace in comparison.

Sad thing is, the Liberals are already flooding the internet, with vile and hateful remarks about Nancy.
