Just a thought.. I have very similar pit and your legs stay pretty chilly. If looking for ambiance it is fantastic but if also wanting heat you must lower the ring. Imho. i get kinda frustrated every time we sit by it

Hey were neighbors.....

 

Mine is only a few inches higher than grade. It allows the heat to spread. I think it much better when sitting around it. I also have a similar one at our cabin as you posted, unless it pit is stoked with fuel not much heat comes from it.
