rcdinaz Report post Posted March 5, 2016 Well finally heading out for the first fishing trip. Anyone been to Roosevelt and have any advice I would appreciate it. At some point I plan to head to Windy Hill to see if any buffs are cruising, maybe I can get a few shots with the bow. Any crappie news? I read the bass are working pretty shallow preparing for the spawn. I figure the water is probably pretty dirty with the run off.
Snapshot Report post Posted March 5, 2016 I was wondering the same thing. With this warm weather, the warmer water should bring active fish to the shallow water?
wildwoody Report post Posted March 5, 2016 Ya catch something, anyway crappie are in 2ft of water probably a week or two from spawning, fun and tasty, bass are in transition, buss packers and buzz baits working pretty good, some are spawning. If you can't hook a couple try dynamite. !night cat fishing picking up, and bring your bow carp are acting a little horny in ton to. That's all I got. tjhunt2 Report post Posted March 5, 2016 Good luck on Roosevelt rcdinaz. My wife and I fished it a week ago this last Friday and got skunked. She isn't an early riser so we never wet a line till noon and was off by 4. The water isn't as muddy as some make it out to be. Looking forward to your report. rcdinaz Report post Posted March 6, 2016 We got on the water around 9:00 and started fishing right by the windy hill ramp. After about 30min dad landed a really nice one on a spinner, around 3lbs. After that nothing for a couple hours. We finally started catching a few more before noon. Most were on spinners throwing right into haevy cover, almost all hits were after the lure cleared or fell from a branch. All were good 2-3 pound fish. I caught a couple on a shallow running sexy shad before evening. Ended up with 11 fish but it felt slow, we never hit em 3 or 4 in a row in any area. I saw one giant toad of a fish at the very back of a cove but it cruised right by the lure. No top water bite even when we saw shad get busted and we tried.I shot one common carp with the bow, did not see any buffalo. The commons were grouped up in a few of the coves but still very skittish.

My Rights As An American Report post Posted March 21, 2016 Was there this weekend and bass were all over the shallows. Would not take anything I threw (I stink at bass fishing!). Could not get my motor started so I was limited to one cove only. Tournament at the lake had 175 boats and probably at least a couple hundred more on the water. Was craziest I have seen Roosevelt in years if not ever. Now I need to figure out how to fix my mercury 40hp. Bass seemed to be healthy numbers everywhere I could see. Lots of big carp cruising. NOTAGS Report post Posted March 22, 2016 I went up Saturday a.m. and was on the water all day, hit it again Sunday a.m.. We drowned some minnows , trolled minnow tipped jigs, cast jigs off the bank... not a single crappie. I think the crappie reports are started by the guy selling minnows up there. The bass fishermen were doing pretty well when we talked to them. Had to resort to bowfishing to salvage the weekend, wacked some big buffalos, but did not see the number of carp or buffs as we did last year at the same time. Lots of people camping out with the good weather. I hope to make it up again, but the calendar is getting full. I think this week the crappie fishing should turn on, but, after last weekends failure, what do I know?
CouesPursuit Report post Posted March 22, 2016 There are crappie to be caught. Unfortunately, it just hasn't been at Roosevelt (in any big numbers). Think west, I'd rather not derail the thread but did figure some would be interested. Lol at comment about bait shop making the reports
