It'd be cool to find another dad who was good at golf and do a hunting for golf lesson swap. Since you're always helping people anyway, put up a flyer or 2 at your local club house for the heck of it!

How tall is he? If he is going to be tall getting a senior or ladies set at this age will be better than a Jr set. Most all the Jr sets a for kids from 3 or 4 to around 10ish. If he is small both ping and taylormade have Jr trade in programs and you can get a set super cheap that way as well. I was in the golf business for a long time.

Look into your local Jr Golf Association (JGAA) they will fit and usually give kids free golf clubs, a golf bag and golf shoes. If you join group lessons are free and they play a 9 hole tournament ever other weekend. Both of my daughters started that way here in Tucson and my oldest is a pro now. The program here in Tucson was wonderful, I am sure they are the same in the Phoenix area. Good luck to your son, it is a great game.
