rschaumb Report post Posted February 29, 2016 What have you found in terms of finding desert mule deer antlers in the spring vs where you locate them in the fall in their home areas? We find big bucks during the rut but can't find them during the rifle seasons. This year we hope to go looking for sheds in the surrounding areas and were wondering if we happen to find these buck's sheds, is that where they'll be in the fall or is that a totally different area as well? I figured it might be since they're movement isn't snow related like high country deer and elk. Any thoughts and experiences are welcomed. Thanks
naturebob Report post Posted February 29, 2016 Muleys move so far in the rut. I think finding a big muley shed I would stay in that area where I found it ,not where I saw him in the rut. Gotta get in some country where it looks like no one wants to go. You could find it on the way to his water source too. Good luck............BOB!.....PS, I think alot will still be packing now. Find em Glassing early. Then move into these areas in a few weks to a month.
jonscaife Report post Posted February 29, 2016 If I understand what you're asking, I think I have the answer. This last year, during the October hunt, I found three sheds the morning I killed my buck. Found one (little forky) during the stalk. One (nice 4 point) within 10 yards of where my buck fell. And one smaller four point about 1/4 mile from my buck during the pack out. Based on this, there are nice bucks in the area in both the spring and fall. Of corse, this is based solely on my experience and mule deer have a much dr bigger home range than coues do. So shed hunting may be a decent way to find some areas for the fall hunt.
