I'm going to try a 55 and 60 grain bullet. I usually use 55. I have a box of 40 grain I've never tried yet.

I'm glad I posted this question because everyone has been very helpful.

1 in 9" twist is good to the 69-70 grain projectile weight range. My AR is a 1 in 9", and shoots the 69 SMK into 1/4" groups.

I have my .223 dead nuts at 200. With a Zero of 200 I can just put the crosshairs on a coyote from 0-300 and hit it.

What bullet and velocity are you shooting? I might need to do some more load work. Both my 50 V-max at 3400 and my 69 SMK @ 3033 both have 7"+ of drop at 300 with a dead zero at 200. If I were to hold center mass of coyote at 300, I would be missing.

so you hold it a short hair high, no big deal.

i spent an hour playing with the ballstics apps and zeros. i have some boxes of the 40gr vmax, seems like the sweet spot is 70 yard 0. out to 350

.

Slightly off topic, but what ballistic app do you use?

I use 55gr bullets and zero at 75 yards. Looking at a drop chart is only 2 inches height or low all the way from 0 to 250yards

I have all my .223 's on at 100. 90% of the game I have called in over the years is shot inside 100 yards. If one hangs up further than 250 you will need to range to figure out the shot anyway. With that being said, the post in both my Ar's his perfect at 300. Good luck

Ps. Pick a single bullet that shots well and performs on the hit and quit changing ammo
