AR15RDY Report post Posted February 27, 2016 Thanks any information regarding this its greatly appreciated. I think my best bet would learn to use turrets. My zero is usually 25 yards but today I missed a really nice bobcat I glassed up in the binos and a fox. I think the distance played a major role in missing the bobcat. The fox I just missed, I shot at it right after shooting at the bobcat on the same stand so my heart was pumping and I couldn't calm the nerves after seeing this huge bobcat walk off! He just didn't like the sound in that canyon but was never worried while I was shooting at him!
firstcoueswas80 Report post Posted February 27, 2016 How far was the cat? I always zero dead on at 100.
AR15RDY Report post Posted February 27, 2016 Didn't have my range finder on me but I know he was well over a 100 when I glassed him up on the binos just sitting and laying there listening to my call. All grey and white faced, he was a very big cat.
AR15RDY Report post Posted February 27, 2016 I think another factor is I sighted my rifle in using 55 grain varmegedon rounds and was shooting 53 grain supervarmit Hornady rounds today
Guest 300ultramag. Report post Posted February 27, 2016 Both of those targets are very small!!!! I wouldn't beat my self up over it. Just knock em dead next time.
lancetkenyon Report post Posted February 27, 2016 200 yard zero. Both 50gr. V-Max @ 3400 and 69 SMK @ 3033. Puts the 50 V-MAX 1.2" high at 120, and only 3" low at 255 yards. Basically hold dead on for anything but Prarie dogs out to 250.
trphyhntr Report post Posted February 27, 2016 I think another factor is I sighted my rifle in using 55 grain varmegedon rounds and was shooting 53 grain supervarmit Hornady rounds today nah its cuz you were sighted 25 yards. thats good to hit center mass from 25-400 on a human but not on a bobcat.
AR15RDY Report post Posted February 27, 2016 Well I'm heading to the range tomorrow and will zero in at 100 or 200 yards still not sure leaning more at 100. Any preferences on bullets? My twist rate is 1/9 so I don't think I should go above 55 grain
Guest 300ultramag. Report post Posted February 27, 2016 I'm zeros at a hundo cross hairs worked out to be 200 and 300 makes it nice when you get a critter hung up out of 100 yds
J.S.R. Report post Posted February 27, 2016 I have my .223 dead nuts at 200. With a Zero of 200 I can just put the crosshairs on a coyote from 0-300 and hit it.
Chris Report post Posted February 27, 2016 Sight in at 200 and understand what it does at 100 and 300
sniper Report post Posted February 28, 2016 Look up 50/200 battle zero with an ar15. Zero at 50 and it will be 1.5" high at 100 and back to zero at 200. For me this works best because from 0-225ish you hold center crosshairs. Just make sure you confirm at 100/200. Good luck
muledeerarea33? Report post Posted February 28, 2016 Zero at a hundred and carry a shot gun with some 4 shot. Good from 0-300 if you can shoot. Maybe further
