Auction Hunt

Recommended Posts

I’ve said my peace about the hunt and the situation the ensued following the hunt on MM.com (http://www.monstermuleys.info/dcforum/DCForumID12/7945.html)

I won’t go into that on this site which I hold in high regard. Although I’m not a frequent poster, I’m a big fan of CWT.com for various reasons.

I want to make a response to the internet heroes and their disdain for these particular types of hunts and the hunters themselves.

I’ve been fortunate to be a part of several of these hunts. Some have been successful and many have not. I see members on a handful of sites claiming these hunts to be cake-walks. Often calling the hunter a “Shooter” rather than a hunter. I believe these individuals have no idea what kind of effort goes into these hunts.

Obviously the guys that spend tens-of-thousands of dollars on tags will be somewhat particular about the animal they harvest. The haters don’t see the miles upon miles walked. The hours upon hours behind the glass. The weeks spent away from the wife and kids. The time spent picking big bulls apart on video and photos to ensure a quality bull/buck for a client. Often the months of work end with no harvest. That was the case on the other auction tag that ended yesterday. There were opportunities presented but none came to fruition.

The money that has been generated by these auction tags since their inception in the late 80’s has been crucial to the wildlife in our great state. The habitat that has been preserved and the projects the money has funded; benefits all of our wildlife. That includes big game and non-game animals alike.

A common theme I’ve seen the last week has been fuel for anti’s. I have a feeling there aren’t many threads on the peta website about the “Droptine Bull” or the Nevada bull. Nope only on hunting websites, were guys who got info from their neighbor; blast off about stuff they aren’t 100% informed on. The only guys fueling anything negative are on these sites.

I see these internet heroes talking bad about people whom they’ve never shook hands with. Never looked in the eye or shared a conversation with. Calling someone a chump, calling someone lazy and the list goes on. They have no idea who these guys are and what they are about. Once again the heroes produce something In their heads and call it good, whether it’s factual or not. I guess maybe I was raised a little different.

Like I mentioned on my MM.com post, I won’t have much of a response. I’ve said what I wanted to say and I’ll leave it at that. You haters can flame away, it won’t bother me. Those that have my phone number can contact me if you want, others can PM if you have any questions.

Regards, Stan Durkalec

Stan don't worry about everybody on the forums let them say what they want. Alot of us understand the amount of time you guys spend in the field finding those animals. The auction tags are a great asset to the wildlife organizations and help out for wildlife habitat greatly.

I hope that all the nay-sayers eat dirt if this one ends in favor of the hunter.

You still look like a toolbox Grong and hooray for shooting the neighborhood bull, truly a big bull and I am all for it if the hunter wanted it and everyone thought it was good and legal....

If the bull weren't even a bull, say a rabit or a dove, I wonder if the Game and Fish would have made as big of a deal. I wouldn't think not. I say give it a rest and let the hunter have his elk.

The only problem with putting it to rest, is IF it was taken to close to a house then it WAS illegal... and IF they let this one go, how are they going to handle THE REST of the law breakers in az? weather they knew it or not, if they were to close they broke the law and they cant just let them go because of who the guides were, or who the hunter was or what tag he had. thats just not fair/right/ethical. you are correct though, if it was a rabbit or a dove... heck possibly even a cow elk or maybe a small bull it would not be made into such a huge ordeal.

personally, i think if they broke the law they broke the law. no ifs, ands, or buts about it. There needs to be consequences for the actions. It's not right just to let them off of the hook because of who the guides are, or how much money the guy spent on the tag. Its like when Paris Hilton, Lindsay Lohan, Nichole Riche et al break the DUI law they get a slap on the wrist. If I got a DUI, I would get the max, AND THEN get KILLED when i got home. its not the right way to hanlde it.

300wsm,

All the time and effort put in to these hunts are paid to the guides by the hunter.Even when the hunter is not there they are getting paid to look.I have never bad mouthed the hunter's.(to each is own)But I do find it ammusing when people try to equate it to a regular hunt were you are competing with other hunters. It makes me laugh when I see the articles in the magazines that start off with huge public lands bull or buck.

Plenty of people get fined every year for shooting doves, squirrels, rabbits, quail, etc too close to buildings and across roads. If the guy didn't break any laws, then he should absolutely get the bull. If not, then he should be treated like everyone else.

I was trying to stay out of it but, this is a freaking train wreck and I just can't help myself!!!!

An excerpt from the Fall 07-08 regulations

"Unfortunate incidents and oversights do occur"

I would say this qulifies as an unfortunate incident-

Whatever happened will work its self out in time. But don't come in swinging on hearsay and perception. Unless you were sitting there with these gentlemen, you don't know anymore about the situation than my kids.

This seems more like a pissing match on whether or not the auction tag is right or wrong rather than if any law was bent. correct me if I'm wrong but didn't this same outfitter take the BGSR winner out last year free of charge?? I didn't see anyone complaining about that. If I remeber right they got that dude a bull before the regular hunt started- Ooo, he had an unfair advantage!! whiners

This is America boys and girls- you and I have just as much of right to buy that tag as anyone, unfortunately my business sense hasn't put me in a position to make much of a run at it and I suspect by the tone, y'all aren't fairing much better. Don't blame anyone for being smarter than you- it ain't there fault.

Oh, by the way, littering is also bunched in with that 1/4 mile violation. Any of you ever litter?!?.......Didn't think so...... <_<

while we're at it- All those fine trophy photos we like to look at so much- by the letter of the law, unless there is a tag on those horns a violation of R12-4-302 has occured..........Not sure which is worse, 20 minutes or 20 yards ;)

Relax a little would ya.........
