Last day Javelina

Recommended Posts

I normally hunt every January with a bow and arrow, but decided this year to give a rifle a try since I have been fighting a shoulder injury for some time now. I have shot over 20 pigs with a bow, but I have never hunted them with a rifle. I hunted all weekend with DCA helping some junior hunters, so I didn't have a chance to hunt. I forgot I even had the tag until yesterday so I jumped in my rig this morning and headed to a spot I had never been before. I found pigs high up on a mountain about 3/4s of a mile away.

I started my climb and would stop every once in a while when I thought I was close. I finally noticed one at 45 yards. I got my phone out and started taking a little video. I went ahead and attached my rifle to my tripod waiting for a good shot when I noticed the wind change and they were getting nervous. One ran off and got the rest of the herd on high alert. I picked one out of the group and shot him using my sons .243 that I had loaded with some 85 grain Barnes TSX bullets. He ran down hill about ten yards end over end. I wanted to use my Creedmoor I recently built, but my loads for it weren't quite ready. David

No, the gun isn't pointed at my head. It's just the angle of the picture.

Congrats! 20 pigs! Did you keep chasing the same herd or are all these in different places ?

My hunt was in a different unit. This morning was the first time I hunted this spot. I was actually watching some deer when the pigs popped up. David

I know this is an older post, but my cc just got hit for a javelina tag. Noticed the kuiu shirt. How do you like it and given the choice would you choose the Vias again? I've been debating the Vias, and yours is the first I've seen in the desert. Congrats on the javelina too!
