mattys281 Report post Posted February 21, 2016 They eat more than just pets, my mother in laws co-worker was killed by an 80 pound female lion while out jogging. A few years ago my brother and I backpacked into the ventana wilderness area for a couple nights, following rumors of a population of public land pigs around the big sur river in the w.a. we stopped at the n.f. visitor center to get directions as we were having trouble finding the trailhead. Lady we talked to asks, "you guys taking a gun in with you?" We didnt have one, we were bowhunting. "Ok, well... watch out for lions, theres quite a few in the area." After a 3hour hump straight up hill through some truly beautiful country, tall waving grass, massive oak trees and glassy blue ocean below us, we got to the top of the hill and ended up on a dirt road that was locked at the bottom, but residents were allowed to drive in on. After about 10minutes down the road a couple old guys pull up in a pickup and stop to chat us up, you never guess what the question they asked? "You bring a pistol with ya? No! Well, watch out for lions..." We didnt see any but I slept with one eye open that night. The people of rural california got screwed big time by anti hunters and ignorant voters. They're aware of it, but what can they do?
