4Falls Report post Posted February 1, 2016 As the title says... Do they hit water every day? Plan on giving the otc spring archery hunt a try and was wondering if just sitting a tank is a viable tactic.

Couzer Report post Posted February 1, 2016 They can suffice there thirst off the dew on the grass and don't need water if not in the area. But if you find some going to water they generally have a pattern and will hit water at a certain time.

Little Creek Calls Report post Posted February 1, 2016 In the fall they hit it daily. In the spring they might feed near water for the newly sprouted grass or insects that are usually found near water but don’t need it to drink like they do in the fall. If they frequently feel pressure on the youth and first two adults hunts around water they will start to avoid it by the time the OTC archery hunts start.
Coues79 Report post Posted February 1, 2016 A turkey will water just like any other bird will. They, like other birds don't need a whole lot of water, but they do need it. Standing water in creeks will suffice. If a pond is the only water around, they'll hit it.
Swivelhead Report post Posted February 1, 2016 If it is a dry spring, snow melt long gone, soils are powder dry, dry feed, etc. Birds will be feeding towards water soon after they are off the roost. 8 - 9 am seems to be when they'll show. Seems they like to loaf around water midday, often a wet drainage. Again they'll water in the afternoon on their foray back to the roost. A wet spring blows this pattern. Water everywhere, find the feed. Sitting water for a spring bird is effective when conditions are right but not much fun compared to calling.
