GreyFox Report post Posted June 3, 2016 Looky there, My very first post here, don't I feel special??? BTW: I am the person First Coues is referring to for camping, I've done a lot of back packing and hunting both together and seperate, but never in the desert and I hope to visit the wonderful state of Arizona this fall and pursue your lovely little deer!! LOL Backpack hunting in the desert...... It's how we roll. Typical on forums!!! Seems like a great group of people here. I've done some long range hiking, - Appalachian Trail - and some camp hunting - Alaska - Contacted First Coues and asked about his services. One thing led to another and we're hiking/camping/hunting provided I get a tag!! Coues have always fascinated me, I've never lived in their area though. jp0212 Report post Posted June 8, 2016 I have actually spoken to two separate people who have told me they got shot at while roaming the hills down south very close to the border. One of the guys was hunting alone, the other person I talked to was hiking with a friend. Normally I'd call BS, but I knew both of them pretty well and neither of them was a BS'er. That was a few years ago though. Made me nervous enough that I avoid it down there. Mainly because I have to hunt alone most of the time.

They probably got shot at by hunters that thought they were deer

cohntr6 Report post Posted June 10, 2016 I read all the advice on how to and how not to hunt these border units and think to myself, what the heck?!! This is the United States and we cant hunt our backyard without all these issues and worries that have been mentioned. Such a shame. Jeff
cjl2010 Report post Posted June 10, 2016 That little fence is all there is?
daryl_s Report post Posted June 10, 2016 That little fence is all there is? As soon as you get a few miles in either direction from border towns, yes. Some places like 36B have very long stretches of full on fence, but in a lot of remote border country that little stuff is all you see.

PRDATR Report post Posted June 10, 2016 That little fence is all there is? Last time I was there in about 2012 there were places where there wasn't even that.
