Recommended Posts

I had a buddy of mine call up last night saying someone had shot a 400"+ bull in velvet near his house. Anyone have any more info? truth or rumor?

Dont know if it is true or not. I heard G & F took the bull for being shot on private property and to close to a house.

I SURE HOPE NOT!!! If the video below is in fact the bull taken it would be a shape to have bought the govenors tag just to loose a once in a lifetime animal to the AZ G$F. AGAIN I SURE HOPE THE RUMOR ABOUT TAKING THE BULL BACK IS NOT TRUE!!!!

I heard the same thing. The version I got was that the an individual knew of this bull and posted a video on the internet of him in his yard. The hunter seen the video and contacted him asking about the video offering $10,000 for the location. Well obviosly the location was given to the hunter. Meanwhile the talk in the area spread about the cash offer. So when the bull was killed in someone elses yard they threw a fit trying to get some cash outta the deal. Turns out the hunter got turned in. All as the bull lay on the ground. So they allowed the hunter to keep horn and head while G&F took the body because they did not have proper resident permission to shoot the bull near thier residence. Dont know if they were sited for shooting to close to a house or not.

I've heard both versions of the hunt (G&F and the Guides). It was taken legally with a question mark. The horns, cape and meat haven't gone to waste and they are trying to come up with the full play by play of what happened. G&F was there and walked them through the killing of the animal so that there wouldn't be any questions as to the killing of the Bull. But even with them being on site when it happened there is still a question. 438 Gross. I'll let somebody else tell the remainder of the story

The "next year" tag starts then. The preceeding years tag is the one he filled. The bull was harvested two days before it expired. Make sense?

Ok, I heard the guy was guided by McClendon and they didn't shoot it on private property, but shot it too close to houses. I heard the bull was seized by G&F and hunter and guide were cited.

Oh, there is no such thing as a governor's tag.......she has nothing to do with it.

I heard about the incident shortly after it happened and was very interested to see how it all played out. It is very unfortunate for a bunch of reasons. I think the worst part in my mind is seeing a bull of that caliber, a bull that has lived through many hunting seasons and has been admired by hundreds of people in that community, die like that with people watching from their doorsteps. That bull did not deserve to die like that......not much different than buying a bull and shooting it in a pen! I am not trying to bash anyone here, I think the Auction and Raffle tags are very important and necessary because of the money they raise. I am just very surprised that this situation happened.......the people involved know better. They might have even thought they were legal in what they were doing, but why not be on the safe side and get out of sight of peoples front doors and make for darn sure you are far enough away. These same guys are incredible elk hunters.....I'm sure they could've devised a plan to take this bull in a different place or fashion.....the tag was still good for a few more days! There will be and is tons of rumors flying around about this and it will unfortunately have adverse affects on all of us who hunt. This doesn't look good to the general non-hunting public, hopefully this all just goes away, it's too bad it happened and it's really too bad that the details about it are spreading like wildfire. Oh well, just my $.02 ;) JIM>

You are right, I just read about it right here, but this could easily be very bad publicity to hunters in general.

You have to worry about a few calls of protest to the governor and what are the implications of that, not to mention that this whole mike vick dogfighting thing going on and it seems like every other person talking about it mentions hunting in the same sentence. We have a hard enough time fighting just to keep what we got, we don't need to give our opponents more ammo and let them recruit fence sitters and non hunters to their side. I really hope these stories are wrong and there is another side to this.

I was truly hoping this topic wouldn't end up on this forum but am glad to see no bad-mouthing has occured yet. If you want to see all kinds of junk on this go to the elk section of monstermuleys.com and you'll get your fill. Be careful of what you believe though and remember to keep an open mind. Gross score is 432" with a net of 412". What a hog of an elk!! Hope it all gets worked out...........
