TEAM TOAD Report post Posted August 30, 2004 No shots, but ran into 3 nice bucks down in 34A. Actually got to within 20 yards of one of them, but then he busted me. (getting to 20 yds was kind of an accident - knew where they were headed so I was trying to cut them off and got a little to close) It was heck of fun though....heart didn't stop beating 100 mph for the rest of the afternoon!! 111 Report post Posted August 31, 2004 Great Job Treestandman. I was hunting for mulies over the weekend and their numbers seem to be down this year. Saw a few nice bucks but not the monsters. These bucks are very hard to find but I know one of these seasons they will make a mistake. After six years of hunting them, with some close encounters I have yet to arrow one. I've also been sitting tanks in the evenings with no results. One of these days everything will come together. Good luck hunting.
Dodger Report post Posted August 31, 2004 (edited) I went down to 30A on an archery hunt/scouting trip for my November hunt and found a lot of "No Trespassing" signs on Nat'.l Forest land . Turns out the rancher has 260 acres of deeded land in the area I planned to hunt. I guess it's back to the drawing board. I did see a nice muley on some private land. Congrats on the bear Treestand! I have lived in Arizona my whole life and have only seen one bear. I have been in some "bear" units (29, 32, etc.). I guess I just haven't been in the right place at the right time to see one. I've never really been looking for them either so that have something to do with it too. Edited January 1, 1970 by Dodger
Manamal Report post Posted August 31, 2004 Well I've been in unit 22 since Fri. glassing my butt off. So far it's been a great season. I found some of the bucks I had scouted out and put on the best stalk of my life!! I watched a buck bed down around 8:30 fri. morning. To his left there was another, bigger buck with his shiny velvet covered horns sticking above the grass and a small mesquite tree. Theese bucks were in the 60-70" range, and I had made the decision that when I got close I would take either of them. They were bedded on a small north facing bench below a ridge near the bottom of a large canyon. This stalk took a long time, and at one point while traversing the canyon I took a hard crash on an oak bush that made all kinds of noise. Thinking the bucks may have taken off, I still proceeded as if nothing had happened. At 150 yards I took off my boots and sliped on an extra pair of thick wool socks, stowed my gear under a juniper, and continued at a snails pace. I was about 45 or 50 yards from where I thought the bucks were and I noticed an ear in a juniper at only 30 yards. I nocked an arrow and waited. After only 30 seconds which seemed like forever a DOE jumped out of that juniper like she was on fire, which in turn spooked the bucks. I had never seen a doe with these bucks before, she may have saved one of their lives. I didn't see another buck worth going through the effort of a stalk untill Sun. evening. A very nice 3x3 w/ eyegaurds feeding enthusiasticly I estimated at 90 inches or bigger. Too late to make a stalk so I was back early Mon. morning. Never saw him again.Spotted a spike and a 1x2 hanging together this morning, decided to watch them for a while and just enjoy the beginning of a new day. I'll be back at it Fri thru Mon. Great job TREESTANDMAN on your bear sounds like you put in the necessary time scouting and were rewarded with a great trophy!!!
GRANDE BEAR Report post Posted August 31, 2004 I WAS IN 22 FRI-SUN AND PASSED ON TWO SMALL BUCKS. I ALSO HAD THE PRIVILEGE OF EDUCATING A 100 INCHER. HAD BUCK FEVER LIKE NEVER BEFORE. THIS BUCK CAME IN DIRECTLY UNDER MY STAND AND STOOD STILL THERE FOR ABOUT 20 MINUTES BEFORE MAKING HIS MOVE TO THE TANK. IN THIS AMOUNT OF TIME I'D THINK I WOULD'VE CALMED MYSELF DOWN A BIT, BUT SEEING THIS TRULY BEAUTIFUL MAJESTIC CREATURE DIRECTLY BELOW ME FOR SO LONG JUST GOT ME GOING. ANYWAYS, HE PROBABLY WON'T BE BACK TO THAT TANK FOR AWHILE, AFTER HAVING THREE ARROWS FLUNG AT HIM,( YES THREE!!) I CAN'T BELIEVE HE STUCK AROUND FOR THREE SHOTS, COUES JUST DON'T DO THAT. I STILL REPLAY THOSE SHOTS IN MY MIND AND I CAN'T BELIEVE I MISSED!! THAT'S WHAT IS SO COOL ABOUT HUNTING THESE LITTLE COUES. THEY'RE SUCH AN ADRENALINE RUSH. I HARVESTED ONE A COUPLE YEARS AGO AND HAVE TAKEN THREE BULL ELK WITH MY BOW, BUT NEVER HAVE I BEEN THIS BUCK FEVERED AS I WAS WITH THIS GUY. I'LL BE BACK AT IT THIS WEEKEND AND SEE WHAT HAPPENS ALBERT
bcoover Report post Posted August 31, 2004 I was in unit 23 over the weekend, and ran into 12 bucks. Ten whitetail, and two muleys. The size of the muleys was 4x4 and 3x3 Very nice I would of shot them both but they ran accross the road and I don't think there is much spot in shotting from your truck. I thought about it though. The whitetails sizes were Two 5x5 six 4x4 and two 3x3. There was only one buck that I didn't want to shot this weekend they were all very nice size. But I do have my rifle tag, and if I had my 30.30. this weekend I could of baged 12 bucks. Good job Treestandman.

Treestandmanonvacation Report post Posted September 1, 2004 Sat a water hole in unit 22. Passed on a pretty nice 70+ incher. The only reason I passed on him was because of my dec 31 coues hunt. It was not easy. While I was in the treestand I had a falcon go straight for me twice. I have no idea why but I had to waive my hands or he would have hit me. Maybe blinking my eyes made him think I was a bird.
