AZbowhntr Report post Posted January 3, 2016 So I am heading down across the border the end of this coming week for a whitetail hunt and was curious how the units down south along the border are looking for rutting activity. I am only hunting about 30 miles across the border so it should be pretty similar to here for rutting. What is everyone down there seeing?

daryl_s Report post Posted January 3, 2016 I hunted 36C Friday and Saturday and saw ZERO rutting activity. Weather was great and deer were out all day. We hit a few different spots and saw over 60 deer both mulies and coues yesterday.

rancilio Report post Posted January 4, 2016 I have seen some playful chasing by the 1.5 yr old boys. No interest yet by the older bucks. In 35A.
parrita58 Report post Posted January 4, 2016 I was in Mexico hunting on my grandfather's ranch over the past 4 days and there is no rutting activity what so ever. Does are still hanging together In groups of 3-4 and the occasional loner. I did see 1 nice buck with his nose close to the ground just cruzin around but no babe's around him. My grandads ranch is an hour away from the Nogales border so seems like your going close by as well. Do you mind me asking where your heading I might know the area? A friend of mine did take this buck from the ranch 10 days ago.
AZbowhntr Report post Posted January 5, 2016 We are heading south from Sasabe. The same Ranch that Ernesto just posted a buck from in the Mexico section. Now I am just hoping that it isn't so muddy that it is hard to get around.
520HUNT Report post Posted January 5, 2016 None in southern 36C... Still a week or two away from the rut.

MMACFIVE Report post Posted January 5, 2016 My son and I were in 35A the last 5 days of the year. Nearly every buck we saw was traveling and trolling. The does weren't having any of it. When the bucks would start nosing around they would sprint off and the buck would put it nose down and go find other does.
cramerhunts Report post Posted January 5, 2016 Orlin, We were seeing good rutting in pockets with mature bucks cutting out single does and staying with them for a day or two. Seemed to be in the thicker higher elevations where this was occurring, in the rest of the areas it was more pre rut with bucks cruising and the little guys dogging the does. Good luck on the journey man and get a couple bruisers on the ground.Hopefully the rain lets up just in time for you to hit the ranch.
AZbowhntr Report post Posted January 6, 2016 Thanks Phil. Looking at the weather it is supposed to clear up just in time for the hunt. It should be perfect for the hunt.
