m77 Report post Posted July 24, 2007 Approximately what date do think the whitetail rut starts in the region you hunt. I have hunted region 5 and the rut always seems to begin around the 20th of December. That's when I see the buck becoming more active and putting their nose to the ground and following does. firstcoueswas80 Report post Posted July 24, 2007 Last year, while hunting with Jim, we saw bucks that had swollen necks, but didnt see to into the chase.... the buck we killed was with a doe and another mature buck. when i was out on my pig hunt mid janurary, i glassed up a really nice 4x4 that was broken all to heck and had his nose on the ground chasing two does HARD! so, i think down south it starts a little later because of the warm weather.
