azbugler Report post Posted December 29, 2015 Can't speak for the muzzleloader seasons much. But..... The early Kaibab hunt can be a fairly tough hunt. If you hunt hard for several days you should be able to shoot a mature buck. The nice thing is you could bump into a monster! Most of the deer shot are spikes and two points though. I seem to see nice mature 4x4's alms it every time I take a short drive in 3c. I've seen bucks up to 180-190 there in recent years.
trphyhntr Report post Posted December 29, 2015 If you don't have the hunters trailhead membership I'll look up what the odds were this year
DesertBull Report post Posted December 29, 2015 I have it, thanks I have enough points for to be in game for any of those hunts. I have hunted the early 12AW hunt once before. Saw a crap ton of bucks, but only one decent buck and he was running. If I put in for it again, it will be the east side. Maybe less deer but way better glassing and less tags. Coues79 Report post Posted December 29, 2015 December 23 or 27 These are great hunts. Ton of points to be guaranteed the tag. What a problem to have if you're in the ball game to draw what you're asking for.
DesertBull Report post Posted December 29, 2015 I don't have the points for those hunts. If you have 7-8 points you have a decent chance at early Kaibab, 3C or late ML

Big Browns Report post Posted December 29, 2015 3C is a no brainer in my opinion
Flatlander Report post Posted December 29, 2015 No brainer if you are hunting with Koury. Trphyhntr is local and it was no piece of cake for him last year. I wouldn't necessarily assume the pics you've seen from any unit this year to be representative of what you can expect normally, but especially the desert.
creed Report post Posted December 29, 2015 I have lived in rural unit 42 my entire life and have had the desert muzzy tag several times. It can be a brutal hunt or it can be really good depending on the year. Guys that get it are sometimes hooked into just one area and eat tag soup. Bucks are usually pre-rut and not in their normal patterns. 3A/C would be a better choice but if you draw the muzzy tag get hold of me and I can help.
