You mean 92? 97's are shotguns. I never saw black powder loads for any of the old winchesters. Have always used smokeless. Lark.

Maybe it was a '73, also chambered in the 32-20. The cartridge had already been around for years as a Colt pistol cartridge, also black powder.

The .32-20 was developed as a rifle cartridge by winchester. Colt started clambering pistols in it later. Did the same with the .38-40 and .44-40. All 3 were orIginally called .32wcf, .38wcf and .44wcf. For Winchester center fire. Did it because guys liked having a rifle and pistol that could shoot the same ammo and it boosted their pistol sales. winchester never chambered the 92 in 45 because they didn't get along with colt. Colt altered their pistols to take advantage of the '92. Not the other way around. Lark

All black powder, Lark. Merry Christmas.

And a free bump for the op.

My granddad had a '92 saddle carbine in 32-20. As a kid, I hunted deer with it. They were a little tricky, had to be real close since the black powder ammo was a half century old.

I shot my first javelina with a Marlin Model 1894 in 32-20 back in the '70's. Great little gun and I still have it.
