MULEPACKHUNTER Report post Posted December 19, 2015 Well not the end of the world but I destroyed a good stock on a Mauser 2000 I have been working on. I have a ton of time into making this stock perfect, as you can see the fore end was warped so it was touching the barrel way out on the end, i made a steel rod which I molded into the stock after some machining and then added wedges to tweak the stock off the barrel, next I works hours with hand tools some custom made to get ready for bedding. So now bedded and ready to go the recoil lug became mechanically seized. !!!! I was very careful and taped where I should have. The funny shape of this welded on recoil lug had me worried and It got me, I should have epoxied the lug to make it more uniform but I went with clay and tape instead which I thought would for sure be fine but either the devcon expanded slightly or I twisted it funny, I had to wreck the stock to remove it. Very bummed. The bed was perfect other than that which bums me out even more. Oh well I put everything away for the year. We will see how this ends.

AZkiller Report post Posted December 19, 2015 Holy shi!! You have enough epoxy for two bedding jobs! How do you plan to get it off the action? That piece of wood makes a better fire than a stock anyhoo!!
MULEPACKHUNTER Report post Posted December 19, 2015 Looking like this soon, shoe polish and graphite powder keeps it off the action.

oz31p Report post Posted December 19, 2015 Did you tape he recoil lug or wax it?
MULEPACKHUNTER Report post Posted December 19, 2015 Taped it and filled some voids with clay
oz31p Report post Posted December 19, 2015 I've never tried it that way. I've alway waxed the recoil lug and the entire action that touches the bedding compound. I always figured the space the tape takes up would leave a gap.
MULEPACKHUNTER Report post Posted December 19, 2015 It does leave a gap but you leave the bottom and back free of tape. This leaves a slight .oo3 gap on the sides and front keeping it from siezing. The way this cheap gun has its lug welded on makes it tougher. I'll put a pic of the lug and show why. Most lugs its a non issue. This one is odd. I had completed another of the same gun without issue but this one went wrong. Not sure why. I no what I need to do to make it bullet proof.
