.270 Report post Posted December 18, 2015 Sharp rifle. Leupold used to make a 3x9 compact that fit real well on em. I'd still shoot 100's or 120's if it was mine. One word of caution. The 600 trigger, which a 660 has, had real serious accidents and more than one guy got killed because they just went off. The 700 has the same reputation. The story was that rem quit making em because of the trigger problems. You oughta research it some and be sure your is ok. I know at one time there was a recall. Seems like they added a digit to the serial number or some deal to note the ones they fixed. I've had a 600 for over 35 years with no problem. Anyway, check yours out. Google it to see what the deal was. Good luck. Lark
metau Report post Posted December 18, 2015 Thanks for the word of caution on the trigger. Haven't dealt much with this one yet to know about it, but I did have that issue in my 308 chambered 660. Definitely changed some of the things I used to do when I found that out.
.270 Report post Posted December 18, 2015 I never knew if it was a trigger problem or a bolt problem. If it's a trigger problem looks like a timney would fix it. From what I remember they all had the potential to fire when you closed the bolt. My kids killed a semi load of deer and pigs my .243 with never a problem. But I'd never let em chamber a round until they were ready to shoot. Let us know how your loads work out. Rcbs oughta have dies for it. Lark.
mmlj Report post Posted February 1, 2016 Another good bullet would be either the Barnes TSX 120gr or the 100gr. TTSX.
roninflag Report post Posted February 3, 2016 for sure i would put a 2.5-8 leup on it. ( at least a 2-7 leup) they are light and clear. 3-9 compact too and shoot it.
metau Report post Posted February 3, 2016 It's got an old Weaver K2.5 scope on it that I want to shoot for the time being. As I've still yet to get dies for this, I have not decided on a bullet to go with, but was thinking of starting with the 100gr partition. With a max COAL of 2.850" in my rifle, any bullet longer than 1 inch will be into the powder. May also try the 100gr BT as well.
