AZbowhntr Report post Posted December 10, 2015 I have a question for anyone that has this rangefinder and has set up the ballistics on it. I have been using the rangfinder portion of it with no problems but decided I would set up the ballistics portion the other day. Looking through the manual it appears that you have to pic from their zero of 100, 200 or 300 yards and out of 12 different trajectories. My question is, is this true? If my zero is 250 yds than it won't work unless I change my zero and can match up the trajectory with one of their presettings? There are several other things that it can do but it looks like they all depend on the ballistics that are input. Thanks for any help.
lancetkenyon Report post Posted December 10, 2015 They are just a close approximation. Unless you specifically tailor your load to the exact specifications, they will only get you close. Out to 500 yards or so, they are pretty close for big game or big targets. They won't get you to hit a prairie dog at 500 though.Past that, and you need a ballistics program. cjl2010 Report post Posted December 10, 2015 wouldnt the shoot to range be correct? Just the holdover part would be wrong?
lancetkenyon Report post Posted December 11, 2015 The "shoot to" is for the angle compensation, from 99 to 600 yards. Yes, it should still be accurate, but you need to know what YOUR gun will take to dial in at the "shoot to" range still.
cjl2010 Report post Posted December 11, 2015 correct.. just making sure I'm thinking correctly.. as long as you know your drops the shoot too will give you an accurate reading
AZbowhntr Report post Posted December 12, 2015 I use the shooter app on my phone and it is pretty much dead on. So I guess if I use the angle and through it into my phone it should give me the updated yardage. I don't really see any other real use for the rangefinder. I was thinking I would be able to enter all of my ballistics and it would match the real calculators.
