Smith2260 Report post Posted December 6, 2015 When my kids did their first pig hunts at 10, we just had them carry a very small backpack that had a bottle of water and a couple snacks. I would carry the rest. That way they could walk and glass all day if needed. Make it fun and take pics along the way. At 12, a good friend gave my son a youth pack frame. He carried his own water and food. Then packed out his own pig in it. This year he used the same pack frame to haul about 30-40lbs of elk meat on two different hunts! Very proud of him!
rossislider Report post Posted December 6, 2015 Unfortunately I have found that most quality packs with hip belts are much to large for my tall but slim 11 year old son. I have a Badlands Superday, Badlands 2200, and a Kuiu Icon Pro 7200. They all drown him in the waste belt area. In time I'll have him use the Superday for day hunts. For now he uses a Bass Pro Redhead pack that was about $20. No waste strap, but he is getting use to carrying a pack that I can still stick his binos, tripod, water, snacks, and a few other small items in till he graduates to the next level. http://www.basspro.com/RedHead-Deer-Trail-Daypack/product/13030505562510/
Str8Shot Report post Posted December 6, 2015 http://eberlestock.com/H3-SawedOff.htm ... I found this pack to work good and to grow with them ...
rcdinaz Report post Posted December 6, 2015 My daughters have been using the Eberlestock X1 for a few years now and it works well. Most of the time there is no rifle in the scabbard but they have used it on occasion and it makes carrying the rifle far easier and safer. I like that one str8shot posted also. lancetkenyon Report post Posted December 6, 2015 Taylor uses a Eberlestock X2 pack. She has used it for the last 2 years. I still carry most of the weight, but she can pack her own snacks, water, and a few essentials like a book, gloves, beanie, etc. And she can pack out some elk pieces to boot.
