pete Report post Posted November 30, 2015 At one point in my 30 year career of hunting I swear I read something to the effect that it is OK to cut a Barb wire fence if you are retrieving big game animals as long as you repair it. Does anybody know if this is true or false Thanks for your input Pete
218buck Report post Posted November 30, 2015 I know several people that have cut and repaired fences not sure if its legal seems like it should be ok
yotebuster Report post Posted November 30, 2015 Yikes. This makes me cringe. I grew up on a ranch and would have quickly provided a thorough a55whoopin to anyone I found on either deeded or leased land cutting fences. I can assure you whatever method you use to fix that fence is not sufficient.
Edge Report post Posted November 30, 2015 That's destruction of property. How many hunters carry wire dogs, stretchers and wire or have the knowledge to properly repair a cut fence? 20 years ago I came home to my farm to find pheasant hunters had slid off a canal and into my pasture. They cut the fence, drove a 1/4 mile in the mud ruining some winter forage, then cut the fence again just 75' from unlocked gates they could have used. I had to dedicate the next several days to rounding up livestock. Luckily none was injured in traffic.
muledeerarea33? Report post Posted November 30, 2015 I cut the fence once so my neighbor could bring his backhoe down to help with some water lines (neither of us technically own the fence) I re-stretched it and repaired it. 5 years later it's still holding strong. Not sure bout hunting purposes though?

DUG Report post Posted November 30, 2015 We drove over one before. We found that we could take one post out and then the fence laid down. We put some branches over the fence and drove across. Just did reverse coming back and pounded the post back in place. Nobody knew until just now........
Str8Shot Report post Posted November 30, 2015 Never cut a fence ... but many years ago, used an upside down can of compressed air and a hammer to remove a lock that should not have been there ...
Pine Donkey Report post Posted November 30, 2015 This is an invitation for big trouble. Be prepared for your hunt, and a pack out. If you are not willing to pack, hunt somewhere that you can drive to. I have fixed many cut fences. There is a difference between fixing and patching a fence. To properly fix a wire fence, you must have some extra wire and a stretcher.
