CouesWhitetail Report post Posted November 27, 2015 Find out where the permanent water sources are and focus on the areas within 3/4 of a mile of the water. Deer will be most abundant in areas with reliable year round water. In addition to hiking and looking for sign, just glass the area from a distance and you will learn how the deer are using the area. Watch where they are feeding in the morning and then where they head to bed down. You can even find hidden water sources by glassing from a distance and seeing how deer use the area. Also glass it under different conditions so you can learn how use patterns change with the weather (ie, windy, hot summer, cold winter, etc). Keep in mind that if it's really windy when you are glassing that the deer might be feeding down in the bottoms of drainages and not visible. So if your first attempt at glassing occurs on a windy day, don't get discouraged if you don't see deer. Ethicsovereverything Report post Posted November 30, 2015 Went out with a few buddys yesterday and we set up on high to glass this area. Not a single deer was spotted. We did find a few cows though. Decided to throw the cam up elsewhere.
Ethicsovereverything Report post Posted November 30, 2015 We found a little. There is a 4wd road that I need to get on and I'll be back out scouting this area. Unfortunately I don't have 4wd.
