Christmas Tree Tags

Recommended Posts

Was going to Big 5 to get a Xmas Tree tag- they don't sell them anymore!

The nearest spot is the Mogollon Visitor Center- they open on the 27th. Or 1 of the 5 District Offices- mostly by Show Low - they're open now.

Anyone know a good spot for White Fir?

Seems like the only tag I can draw. I have never bought one but with my luck with tags they would probably be all gone before I got there.

You beat me to it. I was going to say I probably couldn't get that tag, either, even with 20 bonus points!

I was bummed to read that the contract for Big 5 to sell Christmas tree permits expired so you are now limited in options on getting a permit.

NOTE: In past years Big 5 Sporting Goods stores have graciously assisted us in the sales of Apache-Sitgreaves National Forests Christmas tree permits, however, their contract expired this year. No vendors in the Phoenix, Tucson, or Flagstaff areas will be selling these permits this year. The nearest location for residents of these communities to purchase a permit will be the Mogollon Rim Visitor Center or the Black Mesa Ranger District.

Cutting Dates 2015

  • Apache-Sitgreaves National Forests: November 16-December 24.

Permit Sales

  • Permits must be purchased in person, and cannot be sold online or over the phone.
  • Davis True Value at 617 E Main Street, Springerville, AZ. Hours as follows: M-F 8:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.; Saturday 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.; and Sunday 11:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
  • All five Apache-Sitgreaves National Forests Ranger District offices: November 16th - December 24th (928) 333-6280
  • Mogollon Rim Visitors Center: November 27th - December 19th from 9 am - 3:30 pm weather permitting.

Cost
The cost per permit is $15 for a tree up to 10 feet tall. For trees over 10 feet, you must contact the ranger district and make arrangements through them.

General Rules for Christmas Tree Permits

  • One Christmas tree permit allowed per household - for personal use only.
    • Two additional permits can be obtained for friends/family. This equals three permits total.
  • Trees must be cut within designated cutting areas.
  • There are no refunds on Christmas tree permits.

I agree..... Getting harder and harder.

I'm very fortunate to have a sister-in-law that makes it her mission each year to get permits in our preferred area. Tree cutting in the Rim Country has been a family tradition for us for MANY MANY years, and I'm thankful that we got permits for this year's hunt!

Good luck and early Merry Christmas to everyone!!
