257wby Report post Posted November 15, 2015 Of you guys who are loading 257 Weatherby, what loads are working the best? I am getting ready to buy my first press, and I'm wondering if there are certain loads I should not waste my time on, or does each gun vary that much. There is so much info out there, I am starting to get overwhelmed. Thanks for any help. Mike

lancetkenyon Report post Posted November 15, 2015 I know a few guys shooting a .257 Weatherby, and I think all of them are using either RL22 or H1000.

Hoss50 Report post Posted November 15, 2015 115gr Berger hunting VLDs over 67.0gr h1000. For me it is a proven sub MOA load in my vanguard. I use fire formed 7mm Rem mag brass in my rifle so my case capacity is slightly less then factory 257 brass. The next best load is 117gr hornady btsp bullets over imr 4831. I would have to go look at the powder gr on that one though. It is probably about an MOA or slightly less than MOA load in my rifle. I have a series 1 vanguard and I didn't like the trigger creep even after adjustment so I out in a timney and it is alot nicer.
apache12 Report post Posted November 15, 2015 I have a vanguard and I shot 100grn Tsx barnes with imr 4831 based off the barnes load data and it grouped 5 rounds inside a quarter at 100 Rl 22 was second best and I'm sure I could have dialed in a good load but I got lucky with imr 257 is super accurate and after some convincing from guys on this site I love barnes for accuracy and performance on game
257wby Report post Posted November 17, 2015 Roninflag, I will use it for anything and everything. Tried some HSM 115 gr Bergers, and they were all over the place. The factory Weatherby 115 gr NBT shoot about 0.80 inch at 100 yds, but I can't find them anywhere. I figured that if I can't find them, I will make them. Thanks for all the advice guys. Happy hunting.
